Walking Tour of Medfield State Hospital on Sunday

A tour of the buildings and campus will start at 2 p.m. on Nov. 10. This tour is different than last month's tour in that it will also discuss remediation of the Charles River.

The following press release was submitted by the Medfield State Hospital Advisory Committee.

The State Hospital Advisory Committee (SHAC) will host a free tour of the Medfield State Hospital buildings and campus on Sunday, Nov. 10, starting at 2 p.m.

The focus for this tour will be a little different than the one held on Oct. 8, 2013. In addition to discussion of reuse of this beautiful property, will include explanation of the extensive remediation work that is planned near the Charles River.

This will be led by Michael Taylor, Chair of the Medfield Historic District Commission, Richard DeSorgher, Town Historian, and John Thompson Chairman of the Remediation Team for Medfield. Mike will talk about the buildings and the efforts to preserve them, Richard will discuss the history of the hospital, and John will give an update on the clean-up and restoration program.
