McCormack: What Do You Have Planned During Vacation Week?

Hot list of outings and activities that are fun for all ages.

I’m not hitting the jetway for vacation week, are you? Sounds fabulous if you are headed someplace greener, or even snowier, but if you’re not, we can certainly drum some all-time favorite outings that'll make the week fly! We are very lucky to live in an area that is overflowing with things to see and do. So, what you need to do is take advantage.

HOT List of Local Activities & Outings

  • YMCA vacation week programs for kids ages 3-10 years old include sports camps and enrichment programs.
  • Blue Hills Ski Area offers a February vacation camp. They do have some snow left. This is a great way to spend time in the outdoors!  Blue Hills also has ski lessons, day passes and rentals.
  • Mass Audubon at Moose Hill offers half-day and full-day vacation camps for all ages. Each day will follow the theme Earth's Green Crown Crowd during this action-packed week. Online registration is required.
  • School Vacation Events at Patriot Place. Radio Disney will be there performing on Wednesday 1 to 3 p.m. and take your picture with the Super Bowl XXXVI ring on Monday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Winter Skate, Even though Medfield's town week ends Monday, it still could be a lot of fun to get out and skate this with the family this week.
  • Jump Trax open playtimes will be offered every day during February vacation. Playtime includes 90 minutes in two play areas at $10/child. Registration is required.
  • KidzWurld for ages 8 and under is open daily and is offering a Retile Rainforest Show 2/20, baby farm animal visit 2/22  and a magic show 2/24 as part of the $11 admissions fee. 
  • Children’s museum in Easton has many activities themed Dude, Where’s My Spaceship? Open daily $7.50/person.
  • Walpole Children’s theatre presents Jungle Book Feb. 24, 25, 26 and March 2, 3 http://www.walpolechildrenstheatre.com/.
  • Bostix.com for discount show tickets on sale now Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Wizard of OX, the Big Apple Circus and more.
  • Monkey Joe’s located in North Attleborough is a play area of wall-to-wall bouncing for ages 4-12 yrs for $9.99 each child. 
  • Malzone Baseball Club offers individual training for baseball players of all levels. At this new indoor facility, players can use batting cages to develop their swing as well as receive private tutorials in pitching and fielding.
  • Showcase Cinema at Patriot Place.
  • Road trip to Boston’s Museum of Science, Museum of Natural History, Children’s museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Franklin Park Zoo or Aquarium! Check the library for museum passes. 

While managing downtime during the week try challenging your kids to fun creative contests during their days. For example, lego challenges are fun, photography challenges, creating a scrapbook for this year, baking and cooking!
