Town and state officials will discuss environmental remediation for the Medfield State Hospital site.
On Thursday, June 6, at 7 p.m., the Medfield State Hospital Mediation Committee and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts will present the proposed approach to the environmental remediation for the former state hospital property. The meeting will take place at The Center at Medfield, One Icehouse Road. The Committee urges all interested residents to attend this public meeting to learn more about the mediation process and proposed outcome of the mediation. About the Committee The Medfield State Hospital Mediation Committee -- including Ann Thompson, John Thompson and William Massaro -- was appointed by the Board of Selectmen in the spring of 2012. The author's father was a psychiatrist at Medfield State Hospital where he lived among the residents, some often babysitting him. Here are some memories of his very young years on campus.

Representatives of DCAM said they want to work with Medfield to sell a portion of the property to the town.
State representatives said Tuesday night that they are willing to sell approximately 90 acres of the former Medfield State Hospital property to the town. The acquisition price would be based on the Commonwealth recouping a portion of the costs it has incurred on the site since the hospital closed in 2004. Carole Cornelison, Commissioner of the Commonwealth's Division of Capital Asset Management (DCAM), told the Board of Selectmen that the state would like to sell a portion of the property to the town so "you can control your own destiny with regard to this property." The Medfield Board of Selectmen will meet TONIGHT at 7 p.m. in the Chenery Room of Town Hall. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. with a discussion about the former Medfield State Hospital with the Commonwealth's Commissioner of the Department of Capital Assets and Management, Carole Cornelison, according to Selectman Osler Peterson's personal blog. Wouldn't it be great for Medfield if this property could be renovated and utilized for businesses and condos like Foxboro did with their State Hospital? Anyone going to this meeting or anyone expressing interest in the future of MSH should drive over to Foxboro and walk the grounds there, if you are not familair with what they have done.
