Retiring Children's Librarian Looks Forward to Reading More "Grown-Up" Books

Children's Librarian Ann Russo recently retired after several years as a librarian and teacher in Medfield.

The following "thank you" to long-time town employee Ann Russo was written by fellow librarian Kim Tolson. Russo recently retired after working many years at the library and, before that, as an elementary and middle school teacher in town. The following is taken from the Medfield Public Library's website.   The Medfield Public Library needs your help celebrating National Poetry Month.   Inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996, National Poetry Month is now held every April, when schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and poets throughout the United States band together to celebrate poetry and its vital place in American culture. Thousands of organizations participate through readings, festivals, book displays, workshops, and other events.   Now, they're asking, "Who is the first poet you fell in love with?" Jumpstart your Green with Medfield Green on Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Medfield Library.

The following is a press release submitted by Medfield Green. Want to know more about going green?  Already going green and want some new ideas and support?  Then, this is the Medfield Green -- group for you.  On Thursdays, Jan. 24, 31 and Feb. 7, the group will meet at the Medfield Public Library to discuss a variety of green topics including: Drop in and bring a friend.  This is a very casual group of nice people interested in learning and sharing about going green.  Come once or come every week. Uniquely Medfield: Medfield’s Philanthropist

A weekly column by Town Historian Richard DeSorgher.

He died 83 years ago this week, on Dec. 7, 1929, and the town greatly felt his loss. His portrait watches over those working in the reference room of Medfield’s Memorial Public Library and yet only a handful of people in town know it is him.  His donations and gifts to the town still impacts Medfield’s character to this very day. Others in town actually named their children after him. He is Granville F. Dailey. Granville Dailey was born in New York City on March 20, 1848, and was educated in the public schools there. Dailey went on to become a very successful merchant, business partner with the Medfield hat factory and vice president of the Harlem Savings Bank in New York City. Mother/Daughter Book Club to Start This Week

The library will hold this year's first mother/daughter book club meeting on Oct. 20.

This year's first meeting of the Medfield Public Library's Mother/Daughter Book Club will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the library conference room. The group is geared toward mothers (or female adult role models) and their 9-12 year old daughters. This week's discussion will surround The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate.  In November, the group will discuss The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster on Nov. 17. Five Things Including Book Nook and Worn Jeans

  1. NEEDED TODAY: All worn plaid shirts and jeans being collected to create scarecrows for the Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
