Uniquely Medfield: MHS Class of 1963

A weekly column on Medfield history by Town Historian Richard DeSorgher. This week looks back 50 years to the Medfield High School Class of 1963.

In 1963, the seniors at Medfield High School called themselves “The children of war.” They dedicated their yearbook to “peace” and wrote, Born in a time of war, nourished in a world torn with fear and strife, introduced to education in the days of the Korean War, and challenged to maturity in the years of the Cold War, we the children of war share the universal hope and yearning for a time of peace—a time when mankind will lift the pipe of peace to its lips. It was 50 years ago this year when the 56 members of the Class of 1963 roamed the halls of Medfield High School, then located on 24 Pound Street (today’s Blake Middle School). Medfield Boys’ Volleyball Opens State Tourney Play Thursday at Xaverian

Medfield drew the 12th seed in the MIAA Boys’ Volleyball Central Division 1 tournament.

The Medfield High School boys’ volleyball team will begin play in the MIAA Central Division 1 State Tournament Thursday night on the road against Xaverian in Westwood. The MIAA announced its boys’ volleyball pairings for the 2012 state tournament Tuesday and Medfield drew the 12th seed out of 14 teams in the Central Division 1 bracket. Xaverian drew the fifth seed, finishing the regular season with a 14-4 record. Medfield ended the regular season on Monday with a 3-1 victory over Boston College High School, improving its record to a game above .500 at 9-8. In head-to-head play this season, Xaverian swept Medfield – beating the Warriors 3-0 on April 5 and 3-1 on May 9. The Warriors will be looking to make the third time the charm Thursday …
