A Resident's Guide to Medfield's Special Election on Monday

Medfield voters will go to the polls for the town's Special Town Election on Monday, May 23 at The Center at Medfield to vote "Yes" or "No" on two overrides. Here's what you need to know.

What: Town of Medfield Special Election to vote on two overrides approved at Town Meeting. When: Monday, May 23; Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Where: The Center at Medfield at 1 Ice House Rd. Is the Proposed New DPW Garage Properly Conceived, Sized, and Priced for Medfield’s Needs?

Medfield Board of Selectmen chair, Osler Peterson shares his thoughts on the proposed DPW Garage, which is one of two overrides on the ballot at Medfield's May 23 Special Town Election, on his blog at Medfield02052.

There is no question the current DPW Garage is not adequate and that an answer is needed. The issue is instead whether the building as proposed is the proper building, at the proper cost, at the proper size, with the proper fittings to fill the town’s need.  To date too many questions remain. At town meeting, the Warrant Committee clearly stated they were not making a call about whether the proposed building was the correct answer, rather they said they were relying on others for that determination of appropriateness. To my mind, the proposed DPW Garage was neither fully vetted, nor completely explained to the town, with the result that there still remain too many unanswered questions about its size, scope, and propriety. Google has a revenue source that does not come from it's shareholders. Think of the town residents as the primary revenue source and pause just slightly to read Pete's article. He has repeatedly asked for answers and been ignored. Ask yourself why that is? Don't you think that he is being disrespected by the DPW?
