Lord's Lunch Counter Serves Last Cup of Coffee

The lunch counter at Lord's, recently operating as Ruthie's Diner, closed on Saturday in preparation for the department store's closure on Feb. 28.

  Nine-year-old Justin Marcel has been going to Lord's lunch counter since he was two weeks old. His grandmother, Frances Marcel, has been going there for the last 40 years.  That tradition came to an end on Saturday when the lunch counter, recently operating as Ruthie's Diner inside Lord's Department Store, served its last cup of coffee in preparation for the store's closing next week. "I've been coming here for 40 years and sitting on this same stool," said Frances who was sitting on that stool at the "Celebrate Lord's" community party on Friday night. Lord's: It All Must Go, Most Now 50% Off

Lord's drops clearance prices to 50 percent as it prepares to close later this month.

  The writing is on the wall (or, the window, in this case). Lord's Department Store has now dropped its clearance prices down to 50 percent off the original price. To walk the aisles of the store, it's obvious the store, which opened in Medfield in 1940 and is closing on Feb. 28, is selling everything in the store. "We still have lots of fixtures and restaurant equipment," say store owners Nancy Kelly-Lavin and Tom Kelly.  The Kellys are hoping to clear out the racks and shelves, etc., the sooner the better, since the store will be having one last "Midnight Madness" (from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.) on Friday, Feb. 15 to say farewell to the community that has embraced it for 73 years.  If interested in the fixtures, stop into the store or …
