State Officials Visit Proposed Medfield Cultural District

Massachusetts Cultural Council reps came to town last week to check out the proposed Medfield Cultural District.

  Members of the Massachusetts Cultural Council paid a visit to Medfield last week to tour the proposed Medfield Cultural District and meet with the partners, participants and stakeholders in the district which is suggested to reach from Vine Lake Cemetery to the Peak House. "Their site visit is the culmination of the Medfield Cultural District’s application for state recognition as a cultural district," said MEMO President Brandie Morris, noting there have been 14 other newly-created districts in the state over the past year. "The purpose of the district is in part to increase cultural activities in town, co-market the various groups and events, and increase tourism," said Morris.   The four visiting members seemed to be impressed with …

Here's a list of good things to know as you start your day in Medfield.

  1. Remember that Medfield Cultural Council grant applications are due today. 2. Today is the last day to donate gently-used costumes to the Boo-tique at the Medfield Food Cupboard. Costumes can be dropped off today at the Board of Health office in the Town House, or at the main office of Blake Middle School. Costumes will be donated to families in need. 3. Today when I clicked on the link for Joe Kennedy's chat, I wound up at Sean Bielat's article window. Cultural Council Grant Workshop on Saturday

A free information and grant-writing workshop will be held on Sept. 22 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Medfield Public Library. Medfield has nearly $4,000 in grant money available this year.

This year, the Medfield Cultural Council will distribute approximately $3,870 in grants.  The MCC will hold a free information and grant-writing workshop on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the library, to help applicants prepare an effective funding proposal. Grant applications are being accepted from organizations, schools, and individuals to support cultural activities in the community, and must be post-marked by Oct. 15, 2012. “I have written grants for over 15 years and can share my experiences as both a grant writer and reviewer,” said MCC Chairman Jean Mineo. “Applicants are encouraged to bring their ideas for funding or a draft of their proposal to discuss. Medfield Cultural Council Launches Community Survey

The Cultural Council asks Medfield residents about cultural events in Medfield. The deadline to take the survey is August 17.

  The Medfield Cultural Council has launched a short on-line survey for Medfield residents to voice their opinions on cultural programming in town.   “The survey is 10 questions and should take about three minutes to complete” said Council Chair Jean Mineo. “One goal is to understand how people hear about cultural events in Medfield so we can best advise grantees and help promote their events.” The Medfield Cultural Council is one of 329 Local Cultural Councils (LCC) across the state that is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, humanities and sciences annually, according to the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
