Warriors advance to MIAA Division 2 East Sectional Tournament final against Concord Carlisle after 11-5 victory over Foxborough on Friday.
Medfield's state championship-caliber play was on display Friday in Foxborough as the MHS Warriors defeated the FHS Warriors, 11-5 to advance to the MIAA Division 2 East Sectional Finals against Concord Carlisle on June 14 at Havard Stadium. Medfield challenged Foxborough all game long and it started in the first quarter. Matthew Crowell got the opening goal for MHS as he found the back of the net at 4:18. The goal started the Medfield attack as Connor Roddy and Chris Diana scored with three minutes of the initial goal. Foxborough finally responded to Medfield's 3-0 advantage, netting a goal in the final second of the first quarter. The Medfield High School boys’ lacrosse team finds itself in familiar territory in what otherwise has been anything but a familiar season. Medfield (14-7) and Foxborough (19-3) square off Friday at Foxborough High with a trip to the MIAA Division 2 East Sectional State Tournament final on the line. That should come as little surprise to those familiar with the success of the Medfield boys’ lacrosse program. The Warriors entered this year’s tournament as defending state champions and have won four state titles since 2004. Foxborough sweeps Medfield in singles play to earn 3-2 victory and advance to MIAA Division 2 South Sectional finals.
On a hot an blistering day in Medfield, it was Foxborough High that handed the MHS girls' tennis team its first loss of the season, 3-2, to advance to the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional Final. Medfield's three singles players faced a greater challenge than the heat Wednesday – Foxborough's singles players, who entered the semi-final round unbeaten in team play. That trio of players kept their record intact, defeating each of Medfield's singles players to earn three team points. “The singles matches were all pretty decisive but even though we were ahead in each set you know you can't take it for granted on a day like [Wednesday] when it's really hot,” said Foxborough Coach Peter Prinos. “You just got to win every point and get off the …
