UPDATED: Medfield Schools Closed Wednesday As Storm Expected To Dump 10 to 14 Inches of Snow

Snow expected to start falling late Tuesday night and continue through Wednesday.

Medfield Public Schools are closed Wednesday due to the probable snowstorm expected to hit Massachusetts hard, according to superintendent Bob Maguire. "Just made the decision to cancel school for the Medfield Public Schools," Maguire said in an e-mail Tuesday night.  Town Hall announced Tuesday night it would be closing its doors Wednesday due to the Blizzard Warning and will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday and stay open until 7:30 p.m.  The major winter storm is expected to "paralyze the morning commute" Wednesday, according to WCVBTV 5 Boston and state officials have asked workers to stay home or use public transportation.  The National Weather Service is reporting snow to begin falling in Medfield after 2 a.m. Tuesday night with total …

Sledding Is A Thrill, Injuries Are Not

Advice on keeping your kids safe and having fun while out sledding.

One benefit of living in a flood zone: Our house sits alongside a decent size slope perfect for winter sledding. The blizzard last month was a welcomed gift for my children. Once I stuffed them into their snowsuits and ran through the list of sledding rules, they proceeded to build ramps and additional slopes for maximum speed. I sat at the top of hill, teeth gritted, praying they reached the end in one piece. Winter brings many fun-filled activities (most involve sliding across frozen ground) but its best to review safety tips before heading outdoors. Medfield Has Received 1.5 Inches of Snow With More Expected Saturday

Up to two more inches may fall later tonight and in to Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

An inch and a half of snow has fallen on Medfield with more expected tonight and early Sunday morning, according to Medfield Weather. The forecast calls for up to two more inches of snow late tonight and into early Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service. The storm should clear out by Sunday afternoon. Skies will be sunny with a high temperature of 34-degrees.  After a clear and sunny Monday, more snow is expected in the area Tuesday and Wednesday.

Snow Likely To Fall On Medfield Friday

National Weather Service calls for 1 to 3 inches of snow Friday night.

A light snowfall is expected to leave Medfield with 1 to 3 inches of snow Friday, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast calls for a slight chance of snow Friday morning after 2 a.m. with snow most likely to fall after 1 p.m. Friday afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent throughout the day and 90 percent by Friday night, when the storm is expected to leave the majority of its accumulation.  Chance of snow showers continue throughout Saturday – 60 percent chance of precipitation before 7 a.m. and 40 percent chance of precipitation before 5 a.m. Sunday.  The storm comes nearly two weeks after the blizzard that dropped 13.5 inches of snow on Medfield and cost the town $62,000 in cleanup from Sunday, Dec. 26 to …

Selectmen Report Blizzard 2010 Cost Town $62K

Winter storm costs and safety discussed at Board of Selectmen Meeting.

Last week's snowstorm, which hit on Dec. 26 and 27, left a reported 13.5 inches of snow in Medfield, cost the town $62,000 to remove, said town officials. "It was quite a snowstorm and I thought the Highway Department did a great job," said Board of Selectmen Chairman Mark Fisher at Tuesday's meeting.  "It was quite an expensive blizzard because it was on Sunday and the guys were out a long time…It was a very, very expensive snowstorm."  And the town is preparing itself for another storm predicted to hit New England this weekend. Safety Tips for Winter Activities

After being buried under more than a foot of snow Sunday and Monday, the forecast for the rest of the week calls for temperatures above freezing - turning some of the remaining ice and snow on the roads to water and slush. While good news for some, this could be bad news for kids looking to spend their winter vacation sledding or ice-skating around town. Town Reports No Problems in Aftermath of Blizzard 2010

Chief Meaney says town responded well to storm, was fortunate for its timing.

The 13.5 inches Medfield received between Sunday and Monday did not cause any significant problems or incidents in town, according to Medfield Chief of Police Robert Meaney Jr. "All the roads have been plowed but due to lack of traffic, which is great, many were still covered with snow," said Meaney. "Salt, sun and traffic will deal with this." Meaney said there were a couple of minor motor vehicle accidents – cars going into snow banks – "but nothing significant and no injuries." "The log was very quiet, mostly ambulance runs and a few calls for smoke in the house – dryer, cook stove and a faulty alarm," Meaney said.
