Editor's note: The following article was written by Jack Papadinoff, a Medfield High School student and member of the student newspaper, "The Kingsbury Chronicle." Papadinoff’s piece is part of Medfield Patch's weekly series, "Warrior Weekly."

On Friday, June 1, Medfield High School hosted its annual Class Day, where all students attend an assembly honoring the graduating seniors with academic awards as well as teacher appreciation awards. Here are some highlights from this year’s event (in no particular order): First, Mrs. Sabra won the Inspiration Award, which is given to the teacher whom the Senior Class feels inspired them to become better students and people. “For many members of the class of 2012, I was their English teacher on the first day of high school in grade 9 and on the last day of high school in grade 12. Over their four years, we have become a family,” said Sabra. “They inspired me to challenge myself in the classroom and to take risks. They made me smile every …

Worthy: MHS Elects New Student Council Officers

Editor's note: The following article was written by Taylor Worthy, a Medfield High School student and member of the student newspaper, "The Kingsbury Chronicle." Worthy's piece is part of Medfield Patch's weekly series, "Warrior Weekly."

Last month, before school let out, Medfield High School students elected five new Student Council officers for the 2012-2013 school year.  All elected officers ran unopposed. The new officers will lead the council and will have most direct contact with the administration and faculty.  Student Council representatives often come to the officers with ideas and suggestions for them to put into action in conjunction with Student Council advisor Ms. Jessica Safer. Junior Blake Brown, Student Council member for his three years at MHS, was elected as president. He will create agendas for all meetings, run the meetings, and organize the Pep Rally at the beginning of the year, among other responsibilities. The president maintains constant …

Adams: The Stresses of Finals Week at Medfield High

Editor's note: The following article was written by MHS student Paul Adams, a member of the student newspaper, "The Kingsbury Chronicle." Adam's piece is part of Medfield Patch's weekly series, "Warrior Weekly," which appears every Wednesday.

From June 14-19 there will be many sleepless nights, lots of studying, and grumpy high schoolers. These are all signs of finals week at Medfield High School. Over the course of four days, each student takes as many as seven tests. These finals are either comprised of a full year’s material or a semester’s worth of information. The workload put on each student can feel immense and to some it is an overload.                                                            “In previous years I have been up to 1 a.m. studying for finals, and have seen affects on my grades as well as my well-being,” said MHS junior John Pendergast. “Each day after my exams I go home and continue to study for the next one." The first exam is 8 to 9:45 a.m. with a 15-…

Amoruso: How Do Medfield High School Students Balance it All?

Editor's note: The following article was written by MHS student Amanda Amoruso, a member of the student newspaper, "The Kingsbury Chronicle." Amoruso's piece is part of Medfield Patch's weekly series, "Warrior Weekly," which appears every Wednesday.

Looking at their agenda, the average high school student can get overwhelmed. The entire page is filled with due dates, projects, standardized tests and daily practices for sports. Even when schedules are double-booked, kids continue to take on more. When we are younger, parents are responsible for getting us involved in activities. Usually, it starts as a ballet class or soccer team, but, as the years go on, interests expand to fulfill the college application expectations of a “well-rounded” person. This is the standard for most high school kids. They feel the need to play a sport, show they are artistic, complete enough community service, find a job, and excel at school on top of everything else. How do kids balance school with all of …

Fragola: A Q&A with MHS Student Joe Marie

Editor's note: The following article was written by Remy Fragola, a Medfield High School student and member of the student newspaper, "The Kingsbury Chronicle." Fragola's piece is part of Medfield Patch's weekly series, "Warrior Weekly."

Recently, Medfield High School junior Joe Marie won the CDMASC vice president race. CDMASC stands for Central District Massachusetts Association of Student Councils. There are over 50 schools involved in the Central District, and Marie ran up against eight other talented students from these schools. I recently had a chance to sit down with Marie and ask him some questions about the victory and what it means for his political career. Remy Fragola (RF): What does this mean for your political career? Joe Marie (JM): It is a big step in terms of holding office at a regional level. Also, it should be a good learning experience. RF: How long did it take to write your speech? JM: It took me about 15 minutes to write and many hours of practicing …

Geraghty: Sluggers Academy Offers Local Teams 'Perfect Place' to Develop Skills

Editor's note: The following article was written by Pat Geraghty, a Medfield High School student and member of the student newspaper, "The Kingsbury Chronicle." Geraghty's piece is part of Medfield Patch's weekly series, "Warrior Weekly."

The Medfield High School softball team has turned in a solid season on the field, taking many Tri-Valley League teams by surprise. However, with a rainy spring, some practices had to be cancelled or held indoors. These indoor areas can often be cramped and restrict the kinds of drills that can be practiced on the field. Fortunately for the team, Sluggers Academy is a great location to have indoor practice. The facility has nine tunnels and an infield. The tunnels are separated by retractable nets that allow for even more space. It provides bats, balls, and pitching machines. Sluggers Academy is conveniently located off North Meadows Road (Route 27) on West Street, which allows teams to have easy access after school. “I think it’s a perfect…

I couldn't agree more. The management and staff are great, and the facility is top-notch. We are very lucky to have Slugger's Academy here in Medfield.   more ›

Shelley: 'All Quiet on the Western Front' MHS Student Art Exhibit

Editor's note: The following article was written by Ryan Shelley, a Medfield High School student and member of the student newspaper, "The Kingsbury Chronicle." Shelley's piece is part of Medfield Patch's weekly series, "Warrior Weekly."

“Produce an image translating your understanding of a significant moment in Paul Baumer’s narration in the novel All Quiet on the Western Front, which seems to depict the truth about WWI, in your opinion.” This is the prompt that roughly 150 students from Ms. Libby Wiese and Mrs. Sarah Brown’s sophomore classes were faced with. If you’re a junior or senior, then you probably remember reading All Quiet and having to produce a graphic novel. This project consisted of hours spent up late at night stressing out over the amount of work that was required. After hearing complaints from previous students, these two English teachers decided to change the project. “Let’s do one image, one paragraph, shorten it down, but still make it as important …

Braun: Medfield High School Sociology Students Observe on the Screen

Editor's note: The following article was written by MHS studentAndie Braun, a member of the student newspaper, "The Kingsbury Chronicle." Braun piece is part of Medfield Patch's weekly series, "Warrior Weekly," which appears every Wednesday.

Towards the end of the second semester at Medfield High School, juniors and seniors taking sociology will be watching the movie Mean Girls to observe the behavior and roles of teenagers in a typical high school. Students taking this course learn about different cultures in society while studying how humans function in their own communities. One of the topics they look at is teenage life. The movie Mean Girls is about a home-schooled teenage girl who moves from Africa to an American suburb. She enrolls in a public high school and has to learn how to adapt to a new culture in a different society. Many students are looking forward to watching the movie, including junior Ashley Alemian. “I’m excited. I’ve seen the movie many times, but I never…

Zappulla: Mock Week in Review at Medfield High

Editor's note: The following article was written by MHS student Rob Zappulla, a member of the student newspaper, "The Kingsbury Chronicle." Zappulla's piece is part of Medfield Patch's weekly series, "Warrior Weekly," which appears every Wednesday.

In early February, AP European History students took part in a mock Week in Review newscast to supplement their learning of classical economic theorists and early socialist thinkers. The students each took on the role of thinkers such as Jeremy Bentham and Thomas Mathus, and one student acted as the newscaster, who fed discussion questions. When asked about her inspiration for the activity, teacher Ms. Emily Alland said, “Studying point of view is an imperative part of studying history.” She added that “identifying point of view” is an important part of the Advanced Placement test, which her students will be taking in early May. Warren Lent, a senior in the class, acted as the newscaster and posed questions to the other students, who had …

Lundberg: MHS Art Club Decorates Memorial School

Editor's note: The following article was written by MHS student Georgia Lundberg, a member of the student newspaper, "The Kingsbury Chronicle." Lundberg's piece is part of Medfield Patch's weekly series, "Warrior Weekly," which appears every Wednesday.

Medfield High School’s Art Club, made up of students from all four grades, has been working for the past three months on a project that will benefit not one, but two schools in town. Aside from the high school having a project to keep the Art Club busy, the other school benefitting from this is the Memorial Elementary School on Adams Street. Hopefully by the end of this year, Memorial will have a large new mural hanging on one of the walls in the cafeteria. This mural will consist of 26 panels, all three-by-four feet in size. On each of these panels will be a letter of the alphabet, surrounded by paintings of healthy foods that begin with that letter. In December of 2011, a grant to benefit Memorial was approved. This grant was awarded to …
