Blake Students Take on Teachers for Volleyball Title

Here's a look at annual Blake Volleyball Extravaganza. School reps say this is the first year in the history of the game that the sixth grade students have out-played their teachers.

  On Friday, Feb. 15, the Blake Middle School community turned out for the 2013 Volleyball Extravaganza where students play against teachers in a series of three eight-minute games. Check out the great photos Patch caught for the 6th and 8th grade games (our apologies to the 7th grade whose game was in the morning). The crowds were cheering and the bleachers were rumbling as students were cheered and teachers were jeered when they took the court. An enthusiastic and colorful announcer introduced the teams and the loud music pumped up the crowd during the event. For the first time in the 20-plus years of the game, the sixth grade student team won two of its three games – with scores 24-9, 15-20, 25-19 -- to triumph over the sixth grade …

Medfield Girls' Volleyball Sweeps Norton to Open 2011 Season

Medfield head coach Jack Hastings calls team a "work in progress" despite winning their 62nd straight match Wednesday, defeating Norton, 3-0.

The Medfield High School girls’ volleyball team won its 62nd straight game Wednesday, sweeping Norton, 3-0 to begin its Division 2 state title defense. But Medfield head coach Jack Hastings isn’t concerned with past achievements or historic winning streaks, he’s focused on the 2011 Warriors, who he says have a lot of work to do. “There really isn’t a whole lot of strengths yet [from this year’s squad],” Hastings said. “It’s still a work in progress.” Strange to call a team who has won three straight state championships and a program that has won six state titles since 1998 a work in progress, but Hastings says the team’s player turnover from last year has put a lot of new faces on the court. “It’s a strong program … in the past,” Hastings …
