Here's a look at the 6th annual "Light Up Baxter Park for Veterans Day."
On Sunday, Medfield residents gathered at Baxter Park for the 6th annual "Light Up Baxter Park for Veterans Day." After a short program at 5 p.m., members of the Ladies Auxiliary lit hundreds of luminary bags purchased in memory of area veterans. The program started with a moment of silence led by American Legion Post 110 Commander Robert Tannler, followed by member Al Manganello reading a list of Medfield veterans who have died in the last year. The list included: American Legion Members: Other area Veterans: "May you rest in peace; the Legion and the town of Medfield will miss you," Manganello said. "Because of them, our lives are free. Because of them, our nation lives. Because of them, our nation is Blessed." All proceeds from …

Taking a moment to think about an important day that gets lost in the blur of the holiday season.
As soon as the first leaf floats gently to the ground it sets in motion a frantic scramble to get ready for “the holidays.” It’s like the almost non-existent physical impact of that leaf touching the ground is as powerful as a meteor landing. That light, swirling, twirling little leaf lands with a cosmic “thud” and alerts everybody (the children first) that “the holidays” are coming! Although we can’t see it happening, the ground has begun to violently shake beneath us. The seismic rumble unsettles inventory in just about every store, and somehow Halloween merchandise lands on shelves by mid-August. By the end of September, Halloween has flourished around us, filling every inch available, but the rumbling continues, and shockingly amongst …
Tips that can help the little ones.
Displaying and offering thanks to our veterans this week is the best way to honor the sacrifices they have made to protect our country and freedom. Annually on Nov. 11 (this year is 11/11/11) we honor our courageous service men and women, so be sure to have your family recognize what our veterans have done for us and our country. For the little ones, explaining why it is important to be patriotic is a great start to why we celebrate Veterans Day. It may sound silly, but in case this lesson didn’t resonate completely in school, it is important that they get that patriotism means to have love and respect for our country. Moreover, our American flag stands for our country and it is a great tangible way for our children to understand …

A ceremony will be held at Dale Street School Thursday, Nov. 10 at 9 a.m. to honor Medfield’s Korean War Veterans with a plaque at the entrance of the building.
