MHS Basketball Coach Herb Grace reports on last week's games.

Last week, the Medfield High School's Boys "Big Blue" Basketball team's seven game winning streak came to an end in Ashland. The team lost a hard fought game 55-47. Drew Shea lead the team with 16 points and John Zimmerman chipped in with 13. Friday night, the team got back on the winning track with a come-from-behind 60-48 win over a pesky Millis team. Down by one at the half, the team came out with much better focus and energy and held Millis to just 19 second half points. Drew Shea had 24 points and 10 rebounds, John Zimmerman had 19 …

Members of the varsity and junior varsity teams were honored at the end-of-the-year banquet held on Sunday. Team captains for next year's season were also named.

Medfield had a thrilling win against Dover-Sherborn on Dec. 21.

The boy's varsity basketball team had a thrilling win on Friday night (Dec. 21) over Dover-Sherborn with a final score of Medfield 68 - D.S. 66. Down by six points midway through the fourth quarter, the team came back and showed a resilient effort versus a quality Dover-Sherborn team. Drew Shea lead the Big Blue with 24 points, John Zimmerman had 20 points and 14 rebounds. Remy Fragola chipped in with 11 points. John Pendergast, Matt Pembroke and Matt Cahill had strong defensive games.

Upload the info with this link and share it with our readers. Medfield High School Varsity Girls Basketball team beat Wellesley on Wednesday 43 - 24. This was a hard fought defensive game, as you can tell by the score. It exposed some of our weaknesses offensively but this is exactly why we scheduled games like this. We went up 10 - 6 after the 1st, 26 - 13 after the 2nd, 38 - 15 after the 3rd. Defensively, we used a combination of full-court pressure defense and aggressive half-court defense to keep Wellesley's offense in check. The Medfield Girls Varsity Basketball team opened up their 2012 - 2013 season in style on Friday night. During the off-season, Medfield made an effort to create a much more challenging schedule. As a result of that, Medfield kicked off their season by traveling to Providence to play LaSalle Academy. LaSalle is the defending Rhode Island Division I champions and perennial powerhouse. Medfield got off to a great start in the game, extending to a 13 point lead early in the first half. But LaSalle battled back and cut that lead to 2 points by half-time (34 - 32). After a 1-0 win over East Bridgewater on Thursday, Medfield enters the first round of the MIAA Tournament. On Saturday, Nov. 4, they will face undefeated 3rd seed Dover Sherborn.

After 23 shots and 20 penalty corners, Sophomore Collen Gair found the back of the net with four minutes remaining in the game to propel Medfield into the first round of the MIAA Tournament. They will face undefeated 3rd seed Dover Sherborn on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. at Dover Sherborn High School. The Medfield High School Varsity Field Hockey Team will host East Bridgewater on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. The game will be played under the lights at the turf field behind Medfield High School. Medfield is the 14th Seed and East Bridgewater is the 19th Seed in the MIAA Tournament. This is a preliminary round and the winner will face Dover Sherborn on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. at Dover Sherborn. For more information about the seedings and playoff brackets, click here.

On Monday, the Medfield High School Boys Varsity Golf team qualified for the state championship to be held on Monday.

With an impressive 16-2 season, the Medfield High School Boys Varsity Golf team qualified at Glen Ellen Country Club for the for the State Tournament to be held next week. The team was one of only four teams from South Division III (Alignment Div 3SS). The Division III Tournament will be held at Red Tail Golf Club in Devens on on Monday, Oct. 29.

The Medfield Warrior Field Hockey team won a close one on Tuesday over Needham 1-0. In a non-league matchup, the teams battled to a 0-0 halftime score. Then, about halfway through the second half, Senior Captain Lily Beardsley found the back of the goal after a mad scramble arouind the front of the net. She was assisted by Sophomore Colleen Gair. Getting the shutout in net for the Warriors was Senior Captain Carrie Cook -- this was her 9th shutout of the season. The Lady Warriors are now 7-4-3 and play at Medway today and then host Hopkinton Friday afternoon.

Medfield High School Varsity Field Hockey team versus Bellingham High School. Junior Allie Gianci's quick goal assisted by Meredith Sloan started the warrior momentum. Within a minute, junior Meredith Sloan received a pass from fellow junior Marinda Horan and scored to rack up another point. Juniors Ellen Tucker and Kelsey Chatterton had an outstanding preformance. The teams overall record is 6-4-3 and 4-4-3 in the league. The Lady Warriors will host Needham after school on Tuesday.
