Medfield came back from 3-0 deficit to pull even with Raiders and remain unbeaten.
FRANKLIN – On an off night and in a 3-0 hole three and a half minutes into the second period, the Medfield High School boys' hockey team rallied for three goals to pull even in a 3-3 tie with Dover-Sherborn Wednesday. In a battle of Tri-Valley League unbeatens, Dover-Sherborn (4-1-2, 2-0-2) took an early 1-0 lead into the first intermission over Medfield (7-0-1, 4-0-1) and increased that advantage to 3-0 early in the second period, scoring two goals in 51 seconds. Medfield – sparked by a 5-on-3-man advantage – rallied for two goals in the second period, including a powerplay goal with 4:52 remaining in the period. In the third, Medfield continued to press the D-S defense and netted the equalizer with 9:34 to go. Medfield had an opportunity…

Medfield beat Bellingham, 69-39 Tuesday.
Tuesday's 69-39 win over Bellingham was a good example of the type of team the Medfield High School girls' basketball squad can be when they are at their best. "We are balanced," said Medfield head coach Mark Nickerson. "We had three players in double figures (Lauren Petit, Kate Thomas and Payton Ouimette). We are aggressive defensively in both the full and half-court; we had 17 steals and converted many of them into lay-ups. And we are efficient on offense; 28 for 61 from the floor (shooting 46 percent for the game.) When we are playing our best, we are tough to beat." Medfield raced out to a 16-0 lead in the first quarter before Bellingham hit three consecutive three-pointers to close the gap, 16-9 before the quarter closed with the …

For the second time this season, Medfield was shut out by Dover-Sherborn; losing 2-0 Friday.
Entering Friday's game, the Medfield field hockey team had just one loss in 10 Tri-Valley League games this season – a 1-0 loss to Dover-Sherborn on Sept. 27. On Friday, Medfield suffered its second TVL loss of the year, a 2-0 defeat to D-S at the MHS Turf. "That first goal ... it was 0-0 at half ... whoever got that first goal, the other team was going to get down," said Medfield head coach Mike Mason. After a scoreless first half, Dover-Sherborn got that crucial first goal off the stick of Andrea Marx with 23:03 remaining in the second half. Less than four minutes later, Meg Nolan scored on a ball misplayed by the Medfield defense, sneaking past Warriors' goalkeeper Carrie Cook with 19:37 to play. "That goal that Carrie let up was kind …

Medfield opens 2011 field hockey season 3-0 in the Tri-Valley League after Friday's 2-0 victory over Bellingham.
The Medfield field hockey team is off to a strong start this season, improving to 3-0 after Friday’s 2-0 victory over Bellingham at the Medfield High School turf. More importantly for the Warriors, all three victories have come against Tri-Valley League opponents. “Feels great to start the season off strong,” said senior forward Emily Zlevor, who set up both goals Friday. “I think we’re going to do pretty well, hopefully. Our team works really well together.” Medfield head coach Mike Mason agrees. “I’m happy with the girls,” Mason said. “I can’t complain, we’re 3-0 in the league.” Mason pointed to the leadership of his three captains – Lauren Yancich, Meghan Tschirch and Kara Pelosi – as the key to the Warriors’ early season success. “The …

Medfield head coach Jack Hastings calls team a "work in progress" despite winning their 62nd straight match Wednesday, defeating Norton, 3-0.
The Medfield High School girls’ volleyball team won its 62nd straight game Wednesday, sweeping Norton, 3-0 to begin its Division 2 state title defense. But Medfield head coach Jack Hastings isn’t concerned with past achievements or historic winning streaks, he’s focused on the 2011 Warriors, who he says have a lot of work to do. “There really isn’t a whole lot of strengths yet [from this year’s squad],” Hastings said. “It’s still a work in progress.” Strange to call a team who has won three straight state championships and a program that has won six state titles since 1998 a work in progress, but Hastings says the team’s player turnover from last year has put a lot of new faces on the court. “It’s a strong program … in the past,” Hastings …

Medfield shuts out Norton, 2-0 Tuesday to open 2011 season.
The Medfield High School girls’ soccer team began its Division 2 state title defense Tuesday with a 2-0 victory over Tri-Valley League foe Norton. “We picked up where we left off last year,” said Medfield head coach Michael La Francesca. “I’m very proud of them.” The Warriors were dominant a year ago, finishing 15-1-2 in the TVL and capturing the program’s first ever league title enroute to its first ever Division 2 State Championship. On Tuesday, Medfield returned to the field every bit as dominant as it left in 2010. The Warriors controlled the ball for the majority of the game, especially in the first half, which resulted in two goals just under three minutes apart. Junior defender Ali Gold rifled a strong shot from about 20 yards out …

Medfield and Norton boys’ soccer teams squared off in an aggressive season opener that resulted in a scoreless draw.
There were few scoring opportunities for the Medfield and Norton High School boys’ soccer teams and after 80 minutes of play, both squads walked off the field in a scoreless draw to begin the 2011 season. Norton had the advantage in possession, which resulted in more scoring opportunities, but Medfield goalkeeper, Remy Fragola, turned away any real threat the Lancers developed. “I’m very impressed with [us] coming out with a 0-0 tie and [both teams] had some great opportunities,” said Medfield head coach Jason Heim. “I got to give it to Remy [Fragola], he had a beautiful save there in the first half that kept us in it.” That save Heim is referring to was the best of the few chances either team saw and came at the 24:48 mark in the first …

Warriors finished regular season a perfect 20-0 and earned the second seed in the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional State Tournament – having fun along the way.
It has been a very successful season for the Medfield High School girls' tennis team. The Warriors finished the regular season 20-0; achieved the season goal of winning their second straight Tri-Valley League title and earned the second seed in the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional State Tournament. But perhaps most importantly, amid all the success, has had fun. "The season has been fun every day," said Medfield head coach Chris DuBose. "The players get along very well; the seniors make sure the juniors and sophomores are included in all activities and share in the success and the fun." DuBose said the team's depth has been both its greatest strength this season and the key to its success. "Not only have we won all our doubles matches all …
