More than 10 years ago, a few members of Medfield High School Choir started singing Christmas Carols at Tilden Village, and they've done it every year since.
One of Jennifer O'Malley's favorite holiday traditions is Christmas Caroling at Tilden Village. "We've been doing it since either 2001 or 2002, we can't quite remember with year, it's been a long time," said O'Malley who helped form the group while she and some of her classmates were students at Medfield High School. "It was started by Kate Melchior (Medfield '05) and myself (Medfield '04), and we roped a bunch of friends into coming with us from the high school choir, as well as Kate's younger sister, Karen Melchior (Medfield '08)," said O'Malley, noting there were about 10 people at the start. They now have a group of about 20 carolers made up mostly of Medfield graduates and some current MHS students. "Our group has also expanded with…

Members of the Medfield Housing Authority met with the Board of Selectmen and said it could be time to add more senior housing.
Members of the Medfield Housing Authority recently met with the Board of Selectmen to discuss the need to expand its complex on Pound Street. "Tilden Village" consists of 60 units in six two-story brick buildings with ten apartments in each. The units contain approximately 700 square feet of living space. MHA Executive Director Jack Hurd told selectmen the town needs more senior housing, if funding could be secured. Hurd noted the original Tilden Village plans called for 40 additional units (100 in total) but the project scope was reduced when it was built. He said any new development would need to meet updated requirements for handicap accessibility. "If we were to expand we would want to create an environment where its easily …

Junior Girl Scouts Troop 72188 members Jenna Woodard, Rory McNaughton, Maddy Holm and Katy Enos held an International Tea for the residents of Tilden Village last week as their service project for the Bronze Award.
Medfield Girl Scout Troop 72188 held an International tea party for residents of Tilden Village as the community service requirement for their Bronze Award, the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can receive. The troop of four girls – Jenna Woodard, Rory McNaughton, Maddy Holm and Katy Enos – spent many hours over the past several months planning the tea that approximately 20 residents attended last week. Attendees were able to sample tea and homemade desserts made by each girl from a country of their heritage including Scotland, Ireland, Sweden and Germany. “I thought it was fun and it was great to see the smiles on their faces,” said Rory, whose table had an Ireland theme. “They loved it. They were laughing and having fun.” Rory’s table…

Medfield Board of Selectmen chair Osler "Pete" Peterson suggests the town look into expanding Tilden Village to accommodate more 40B housing units. Do you agree?
Affordable housing continues to be a hot button topic around Medfield in light of the proposed 96-unit apartment complex on West Street and the realization that the town has very little defense against developers wanting to build anywhere in town. Many residents have taken their concerns regarding Chapter 40B to public forums, searching for answers and speaking at length at Board of Selectmen meetings. Medfield Board of Selectmen chair Osler "Pete" Peterson has gotten involved in the conversation through his personal blog, "Medfield 02052," offering his view on the town's situation regarding Chapter 40B and suggestions to address the need for affordable housing in Medfield. Among those suggestions is expanding Tilden Village to the vacant …
