Super Bowl Cheerleading Controversy: Isolated Incident or Larger Issue?

A Ravens cheerleader has been making headlines for the reasons she says she was banned from cheering on Super Bowl Sunday.

The story of a Baltimore Ravens cheerleader who said she was disciplined for weight gain—and believes this is a reason she was left behind from the Super Bowl—has been making headlines across the country. Cheerleader Courtney Lenz said she thinks her team didn't take her to the Super Bowl was because she gained 1.6 pounds. Admittedly, her story has changed through the week: Yahoo Sports noted she first said the team was upset because she had chosen to retire at the end of the season. She later told Good Morning America she thought the decision was because of her weigh-in. The alleged snub led to supporters starting an online petition to reinstate her, The Huffington Post reported. The team has said they picked cheerleaders for the Super …

I was wondering who would care about this story and why anyone would waste their time on writing it and then I saw it was from the Hufffington Post and that explained it all. I dont think I have ever read anything interesting or factual in that rag.   more ›

Patriots AFC Championship Tickets Go on Sale Thursday

A limited number of tickets to the Jan. 20 AFC Championship Game at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough go on sale to the general public on Thursday, Jan. 17.

For the ninth time in 20 playoff appearances, the New England Patriots are just one game from advancing to the Super Bowl. That game will be played at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 6:30 p.m. against the Baltimore Ravens. It is the second consecutive season the Patriots and Ravens will meet in the AFC Championship game at Gillette Stadium. New England beat Baltimore in last season’s AFC title game, 23-20 to advance to Super Bowl XLVI. The Patriots are 7-1 all-time in AFC Championship Games, including 4-0 in Foxborough (3-0 at Gillette Stadium) but just 1-1 against the Ravens in the postseason. Baltimore defeated the Patriots, 33-14 in the 2009-10 AFC Wild Card game at Gillette Stadium on Jan. 10, 2010. However, the Patriots are 6-2…

'Sexy Meatballs' Invades Medfield Kitchen to Film Pilot for Cooking Show

Filmmakers turned a Medfield resident's kitchen into a cooking set for a segment of a pilot, "Sexy Meatballs."

The Hattens did what many others were doing on Feb. 5 – hosting a Super Bowl party. But unique to others, the Pederzini Drive residents welcomed into their kitchen a production company from California and two chefs from Boston to film the pilot episode of an independently produced show entitled "Sexy Meatballs." Evan Hatten, a 2004 graduate of Medfield High School, has been in the film industry for eight years and said turning his parents' kitchen and Super Bowl party into a set happened "in the most roundabout" way. "The director, Jon Schroder, is married to a woman who used to live down the street from me," Hatten said. "We're Facebook friends, and every now and again I'll touch base with her and Jon, both out of friendship and sometimes…

Super Bowl Commercials 2012: What Was Your Favorite?

From the Doritos baby to Ferris Bueller, Super Bowl Sunday delivered plenty of laughs. But what ad reigned supreme?

As many across New England try to rebound from another heart-breaking Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants ... we try to lighten the mood for our fellow Patriots fans in mourning by revisiting a part of Super Bowl XLVI that has nothing to do with the game itself – the commercials. Today we are asking: What was the best Super Bowl commercial of 2012? This year's ads featured plenty of Super Bowl Sunday staples—funny babies, cute dogs and a bunch of celebrities (Jerry Seinfeld, Clint Eastwood, Betty White and David Beckham, to name a few). The Associated Press reports that companies paid an average of $3.5 million for a 30-second spot during Sunday's game, which was expected to attract 111 million-plus fans.  However, nearly half of the 70…

PHOTOS: Medfield Youngsters Show Their Patriots Pride

Medfield students show their Patriots pride at school on the Friday before Super Bowl XLVI! Show your Pats pride today by uploading photos to the gallery!

On the Friday before the big game on Super Bowl Sunday, the students at Memorial School, Dale Street School and Wheelock School were showing their Patriots Pride! Mr. Mike Mason's fifth grade class walked from Dale Street School to Mrs. Ravinski's first grade class at the Memorial school to read to them. All students were enjoying the visit and the books, but there was one very noticeable color in that classroom. Patriot blue!  Students in that classroom and throughout the school were showing their Patriots Pride for the upcoming Super Bowl Sunday. Whether in classrooms, gym class, the lunchrooms, or walking down the hallways at all three of these schools, it was easy to see many Patriots jerseys, shirts, stickers and more. Let's hope the …

ESP Solutions Recommended by Jarvis Green for 'Perfect Revenge' Shirts [Video]

Norton screen printing business to produce up to 35,000 shirts.

You can’t get a much better advocate than ex-New England Patriot Jarvis Green. And that’s just who recommended ESP Solutions Inc., a screen print and embroidery facility in Norton, to print the “Perfect Payback” tee shirts being sold just in time for Super Bowl XLVI. ESP Solutions was contacted by Fan’s Only, a marketing company out of Maryland. They were recommended by Green to print the shirts, as they were the perfect candidate being in the Foxborough area. "We did a shirt for him [Green] three or four years ago," said Steve Holcomb of Fans Only, which is licensed with the NFL Association. "And apparently he has done some business here, and he said, 'these are the guys you need to talk to.'" And Holcomb is happy with the results. An …

Super Bowl XLVI Predictions: Patriots or Giants?

Patch editors weigh in on Sunday’s big game.

Patriots or Giants … who are you taking? Super Bowl XLVI is almost here. Enough of the hype, trash talk and analysis – we’re ready for some football. On the eve of Super Sunday, several Patch editors took the time to answer the most asked question over the past two weeks – who will win Super Bowl XLVI? Here are their answers: Courtney Jansson, Foxborough Patch Editor: I feel this is going to be a close game. Both teams are extremely talented, however in the end, the Patriots will have more drive to pull this out! – Patriots 28, Giants 21 Michael Hardman, Boston Patch Regional Editor: Giants score on five field goals while the Pats find the endzone on two Rob Gronkowski scores. I can't lose. The Pats are my AFC team and the Giants my NFC …

McCormack: Involve the Kids on Super Bowl Sunday

Start them young!

It's amazing to have such a dominating football team in our region! As we gear up for the festivities on Feb. 5 for Super Bowl XLVI, we can prepare some spirited activities for the kids. Whether you are planning a family evening at home, attending a party or having a party, these are ideas that’ll make it fun for all.   First thing, what is Super Bowl Sunday? Apples4theteacher.com lays out the history of Super Bowl Sunday very nicely. The Super Bowl was first played on Jan. 15, 1967, as part of a merger agreement between the NFL (National Football League) and AFL (American Football League). After a merger in 1970, each league became a "conference" and the game is now played between conference champions to determine the overall championship…
