Medfield's State Rep. Daniel Winslow (R-Norfolk) recently filed an amendment that would create licenses for Internet poker in the state. The representative is asking the state to establish three licenses for intrastate Internet poker companies. The licenses would require a minimum $10 million fee, and could generate more than $30 million in new revenue, according to Winslow's office. Winslow led the efforts to legalize Internet poker companies in Massachusetts, which was accepted as part of the state gaming legislation that went into effect this year. Winslow said in a statement that having the companies in Massachusetts would be beneficial to the state and its residents. "State regulation of Internet poker will create significant customer…

The Medfield School Committee will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the TV Production classroom of the high school.
Senator James Timilty and State Representatives Dan Winslow and Denise Garlick are expected to attend Monday's School Committee meeting at the request of Superintendent Bob Maguire and the committee to discuss the importance of the Circuit Breaker fund and other state funding issues/concerns. In February, Maguire expressed some concern regarding state funding via Governor Deval Patrick's budget. "I think the concern right now in the state is related to what really is happening with the legislature on the budget,” Maguire said. “It appears the governor’s budget is imbalanced at this point and he has basically recommended that Chapter 70 local education aid remain stable and unrestricted local aid also remain at level funding.” Charles …

If you woke up on Saturday morning and were not $600 million richer from the lottery, take heart. The Massachusetts Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight has given a favorable nod to pending legislation that could pay state residents up to $10,000 for new ideas that save taxpayers money. The proposal, sponsored by State Representative Dan Winslow (R-Norfolk), who represents Medfield, amends the existing Suggestion Awards Board law to allow cash awards to all Massachusetts residents who propose money-saving ideas. The current law limits cash awards only to state employees. Awards are funded as a percentage of money saved by new ideas, up to a $10,000 per idea limit. "The citizens of the Commonwealth are the best …

Massachusetts transgender equal rights bill was approved by legislature this past week.
The Huffington Post reported this week that "Massachusetts will become the 16th state to treat transgender citizens as a protected class after legislature passed the Transgender Equal Rights Bill, which not only adds protections to the state's civil rights laws against employment, education, housing and credit discrimination, but also adds gender identity and expression to the state's hate crimes law," according to the Huffington Post's article. The bill still needs final approval from both branches and will need to be signed by Governor Deval Patrick. Medfield's State Representative, Dan Winslow (R-Norfolk) said he voted in favor of the bill. "This week I voted in favor of a bill that secures the civil rights for members of the …

The proposed reforms will hold members and legislative staff to a higher standard of ethical conduct than prescribed by statute, as well as work to restore the public’s faith in state government. “The strengthening of the House Code of Ethical Conduct will assure that we restore the public’s faith in our ability to govern for the greater good,” said Winslow.
