The Medfield School Committee met on March 18 at the television studio at the high school. The Medfield School Committee is seeking community input into the selection of the next Superintendent of the Medfield Public Schools. Current Superintendent Bob Maguire is retiring on June 30. Superintendent of Schools Robert Maguire has recommended a 3.38 percent increase in next year's budget.
Tonight the Medfield School Committee will discuss the proposed budget for the FY14 school year. The meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. in the MedfieldTV Production Classroom at Medfield High School. The school department's budget makes up approximately half of the town's overall budget. School Superintendent Robert Maguire, who will retire in June, has recommended a 3.38 percent increase totalling $927,326, the bulk of which -- $860,000 -- is related to personnel increases. Maguire told the School Committee at its Jan. 14 meeting that 80 percent of the district's budget is personnel costs. Superintendent Bob Maguire met with administrators following the shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School.
In response to the tragedy in Newtown, Conn., on Dec. 14, Superintendent of Schools Robert Maguire held several meetings over that following weekend and Monday (Dec. 17) with building principals, public safety officials, and town officials to ensure the school's safety plans are being followed. Maguire said the school's procedures were reviewed and adjusted at the beginning of this school year, and they are being fully reviewed again. "We're making sure that we're looking at all aspects of the plans that we have in place," he said. "Basically, what we can assure people is that we do have emergency plans in place. At its meeting on Monday, the school committee hired an executive search firm at a cost of $19,500.
The Medfield School Committee has chosen an executive search firm to help select the district's next Superintendent of Schools. Current Superintendent Bob Maguire announced last month that he will retire in June after 22 years in the district. Last week, the school committee interviewed two firms -- Future Management Systems, Inc. of Beverly and NESDEC of Marlborough -- that had responded to a Request for Proposals put out by the district. After the presentations, school committee members rated the applicants; that information was used to determine the best choice for the district.
