A grant to fund the senior respite care program has been extended one more year.
Medfield's respite care program will continue one more year, according to Selectman Osler "Pete" Peterson's personal blog, Medfield02052, and Roberta Lynch, the Director of the Medfield Council on Aging. "Roberta Lynch tells me that the Council on Aging’s grant from the Metrowest Health Foundation to provide respite care at The Center has been extended for another year. Roberta said that the Metrowest Health Foundation expects them to get their census up over the next year. The hope is that the program will become self-financed once the census increases." Members of the Medfield Housing Authority met with the Board of Selectmen and said it could be time to add more senior housing.
Members of the Medfield Housing Authority recently met with the Board of Selectmen to discuss the need to expand its complex on Pound Street. "Tilden Village" consists of 60 units in six two-story brick buildings with ten apartments in each. The units contain approximately 700 square feet of living space. MHA Executive Director Jack Hurd told selectmen the town needs more senior housing, if funding could be secured. Hurd noted the original Tilden Village plans called for 40 additional units (100 in total) but the project scope was reduced when it was built. Starbucks still a go November 12, 2012 I had noticed as I jogged that the Mobil station pumps have had their hoses removed and the station looks closed (and ratty), so I asked at our meeting of the Board of Selectmen last Tuesday whether the town should be looking whether to take some action. Kristine Trierweiler responded that the developer who has been pursuing the Starbucks at that location had in fact recently been in contact with her, that he is still going forward with the Starbucks, that he is making progress, and that he is planning on an opening next fall. I am told that the Bayberry and Stagecoach Road neighbors missed our last Board of Selectmen meeting where their beaver problems were discussed because they were apparently not aware that the Board of Selectmen would be discussing their beaver problems that night. And this morning I missed a Building Committee meeting that I wanted to attend because I did not get notified that it was happening. My work around has been to rely on the list of town meetings published daily on Patch to fill in the gaps in what I know and do not know. However, that does not work …

Town officials say work to remove the problematic beaver dam near the Stop River could start today.
In his personal blog, "Medfield 02052" on Wednesday, Selectman Osler Peterson's addressed the beaver issue on that is causing trouble for residents on Bayberry Road and Stagecoach Road. Work to remove the dam is scheduled to begin this week, weather permitting. Here is Peterson's post. Town officials respond to complaints from residents of standing water that is a public safety risk.
On Tuesday, the Board of Selectmen heard from several residents of Bayberry Road, Stagecoach Road, and Nauset Street who complained of standing water in the Stop River that is being caused by beaver. Residents said the standing water was a public safety concern for children in the area who might fall into it, the increased chance of mosquitos and EEE, the foul odor, and the potential to damage house foundations and septic systems. Town officials said they would do all they could to help the residents who have had no luck trying to find the right agency or department to address the problem. Effective July 1, hauling fees for regular trash will increase to $74.01 per ton, more than twice the cost of single-stream recycling at $35 per ton.
Medfield Town Administrator Michael Sullivan says resident participation in the town’s recycling program is up nearly four percent from 23 to 27 percent but there is still room for improvement, especially with an increase in hauling fees on the horizon. Sullivan told the Board of Selectmen Tuesday night that, effective July 1, the cost for hauling trash to the Millbury incinerator will increase $1.73 per ton – from $72.28 to $74.1 per ton – more than twice the cost of single-stream recycling at $35 a ton.
