NSTAR reports that some customers are still without power after Hurricane Sandy.
When Medfield turned off the light Thursday night, there were still at least three NSTAR customers (or .06 percent) unable to do the same since they still have no power due to Hurricane Sandy. Throughout the storm and clean-up, NSTAR has maintained an outage map of customers affected by Hurricane Sandy. The list shows the total number of NSTAR customers in each town; the reported number of NSTAR customers without power; and the percentage of NSTAR customers reported without power. According to the map, a total of 1,234 (or less than 1 percent) of NSTAR's 1,151,085 Massachusetts customers are still without power.

When Medfield turned in for the night on Wednesday, there were still 93 NSTAR customers (or 1.94 percent) without power. NSTAR has been maintaining an outage map of customers affected by Hurricane Sandy. The list shows the total number of NSTAR customers in each town; the reported number of NSTAR customers without power; and the percentage of NSTAR customers reported without power. According to the map, a total of 14,920 (or 1 percent) of NSTAR's 1,151,085 Massachusetts customers are still without power. Did you lose power? If so, for how long? Are you still without power? Monday, Oct. 29 7:12 a.m., Causeway Street. Caller reported a brush fire in the woods off her back yard. Fire Department reported that NSTAR was on the scene and extinguished the fire. 9:04 a.m., Harding Street. Tree fell on house at 56 Harding Street. 9:06 a.m., Hartford Street. Pole is leaning. Police said the pole was leaning away from the road and poses no risk at this time. 12:17 p.m., High Street and South Street. Tree down in road. 12:26 p.m., Brook Street. Two trees down. Update: As of 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, NSTAR reports there are still 754 Medfield customers (or 15.71 percent) without power. Do you have power? More than one-third of Medfield's NSTAR customers were without power when they went to bed Monday night. As of late Monday evening, 1,826 (or 38 percent) of Medfield's NSTAR 4,799 customers were without power. NSTAR's has been maintaining an outage map for those customers affected by Hurricane Sandy. As Hurricane Sandy began to impact Massachusetts late Monday morning, NSTAR crews and contractors began their response to outages across the region. The company was bracing for significant damage and power outages as the storm moved across the area. In advance of the storm’s arrival, the company opened its emergency operations center this morning and staffed its regional work centers across the state. Approximately 1,200 contract personnel from as far away as Texas and the Midwest are assisting NSTAR’s 3,000 employees in their efforts. The president of National Grid offered an update on Monday afternoon about the company's preparedness and response to Hurricane Sandy.
There are more than 1,300 electric crews on the ground in Massachusetts ready to restore power in the National Grid service area once Hurricane Sandy blows through. That’s according to Marcy Reed, president of National Grid in Massachusetts. She met with the press on Monday afternoon in a conference call for about 20 minutes where she said the company has been preparing for Hurricane Sandy since last Monday. As of mid afternoon Monday, the hardest hit areas included Quincy on the South Shore and Salem on the North Shore, she said. “Many utilities have been able to send crews and they are here,” she said. National Grid advises residents to chill fridge, fill tub with water, turn off propane tanks, avoid phone, check on elders, prepare emergency supply kit, etc.
National Grid lists the following tips for customers, on its website, to minimize inconvenience and maximize safety in the event that storm-related power interruptions do occur. IMPORTANT: People who depend on electric-powered life support equipment, such as a respirator, should let National Grid know. NSTAR says it has secured contractor crews from as far away as the states of Texas and Washington to help New England.
