Celebrate Lord's Committee chairman Nancy Norris sends a note of thanks for all who helped make Friday's party a success.
To the Editor: On February 15th our community honored the Medfield institution, Lord’s Department Store, in a wonderful celebration that took place at the store and will be remembered for years to come. Lord’s will close its doors for the last time on February 28th. I want to thank the following people and groups for their contributions and for giving so many people the gift of closure as we bid our beloved Lord’s farewell: Finally, I need to thank Nancy Kelly Lavin and Tom Kelly for graciously allowing us to invade the store for the party and for sharing photos and memorabilia with us. Nancy Norris, Chairperson of the Celebrate Lord’s Committee

Hundreds of people turned out for the Lord's Celebration on Friday.
Hundreds of people celebrated Lord's Department Store on Friday where they attended a celebration that will likely be remembered as the social event of the year. The community gathered to say "thank you" and "goodbye" to the Kelly family -- June Kelly, Nancy Kelly-Lavin and Tom Kelly -- which has run the store for many years. Lord's Department Store will be closing on Feb. 28 after 73 years in business. Editor's Note: Be sure to check out our photo gallery for hundreds of photos from the party. The event included refreshments, a "Celebrate Lord's" cake, a string ensemble and a DJ, gift basket giveaways, photos at the Lunch Counter, "Lord's Through the Years" memorabilia and record audiovisual memories (with Medfield TV) for the Medfield…

Lord's store owners say the community response is a tribute to their father.
When Nancy Kelly-Lavin and Tom Kelly announced last month that they would be closing Lord's Department Store, they had no idea the community would respond as they have. Since then, the Kellys have been inundated by long-time customers, past employees -- including 97-year-old Fred McMasters who worked at the store for 62 years (and whom they hadn't seen in 10 years) -- and others with stories of thanks and of what the store means to them. They say they've also gotten calls from all over the country from people who heard the news the store is closing after 73 years in town. "I knew it was going to be rough but I had no idea that people would feel this way," she said. "But how grateful are we, and how great for Dad." The Kellys' father, …

Be sure to record your favorite stories in the memory book or in an audiovisual recording at Friday's party. They will be kept by the Kelly family and the Medfield Historical Society.
Okay, Medfield, there's not much time left so here's my favorite memory of Lord's Department Store. After you read mine, I'd love to read yours! Make sure you record your memory either in person at Friday's party, on Facebook at Medfield Remembers Lord's, or in the comment section of this story -- whichever way you choose, be sure to do it soon as the store will be closing two weeks from today. Here goes... This past Christmas, my 13-year-old son headed to Lord's to buy that one last gift on his shopping list -- mine. I sent him fully-prepared with a detailed list of various options as well as their exact location in the store. He had $20 to spend. After the holidays, he would relay the details of that day... Minutes after school let …

RE: Lord's store owners say the community response is a tribute to their father. In addition to a tribute in memory of Mr. Kelly, the immense homage from the Medfield community is also in honor of Nancy, Tommy, and Mrs. Kelly. Re: "A Clark: OMG, I remember Fred; so much a part of Lord's in the past...". Ditto! Fred, along with my late Godmother Irene Gattoni - "coffee with Irene at the fountain…   more ›
