Members of the Medfield Board of Selectmen voiced three different opinions on whether or not to establish a Medfield State Hospital Reuse Committee to study potential reuses and town purchase of the property.
Differing opinions from the town’s three members of the Board of Selectmen has led to indecision on whether to move forward in creating a volunteer Medfield State Hospital Reuse Study Committee. At its last meeting, the Board of Selectmen discussed the idea of establishing a volunteer committee to study the possibilities for reuse at the Medfield State Hospital and the potential town purchase of the property. Residents in attendance at the April 17 BOS meeting asked about the current status and potential timeline for establishing such a committee and received three different answers from the three-member board. Medfield selectmen Osler “Pete” Peterson and Mark Fisher both favored reestablishing a committee to study the potential reuse and …

Osler "Pete" Peterson was reelected as selectman Monday at Medfield's annual town election, defeating challenger Nikolaos "Nick" Athanasiadis, 701-590.
Monday's race for selectman in Medfield's annual Town Election was close. Closer than Osler "Pete" Peterson and his supporters would have liked. And not close enough for Nikolaos "Nick" Athanasiadis and his campaign committee. In the end, months of campaigning and hard work came down to 14 hours at the polls and an eight second announcement from Town Clerk Carol Mayer. "Drum roll please," Mayer said. "Nick 590 ... Pete 701. Congratulations Pete." An outburst of cheers surrounding Peterson as his supporters congratulated him with hugs, smiles and handshakes. The 12-year Medfield selectman was voted back for three more years by 54 percent of the 1,298 residents who made it out to the polls Monday. "I'm very happy," Peterson said. "Everybody'…

Check out these scenes from Medfield's Town Election Monday at the Center.
Medfielders are getting out to the polls and showing support for their choices on Election Monday. Medfield's annual Town Election began at 6 a.m. Monday at the Center at Medfield with Electric Time's Thomas Erb e-mailing a photo to Medfield Patch of a large sign in the bed of a pickup truck supporting Nikolaos "Nick" Athanasiadis for selectman. Supporters for both Athanasiadis and current Board of Selectmen chair Osler "Pete” Peterson – up for reelection – lined the driveway to the Center at Medfield on Ice House Road, greeting voters with waves, smiles and political signs supporting their candidate of choice. Inside the Center, Medfield Town Clerk Carol Mayer and her Election Day staff have been "consistently" busy throughout the day …
Here’s a resident’s guide to everything you need to know about the upcoming Medfield town election on Monday, March 26.
Last March, 808 voters participated in the town’s annual local election with the Library Trustee being the only contested race for town offices. This year’s election also has just one contested race – but will likely draw a larger turnout because it is for a seat on the town’s Board of Selectmen. Current Board of Selectmen chair Osler “Pete” Peterson, who has sat on the board for 12 years, is up for reelection an being challenged by Nikolaos Athanasiadis, a local business owner and Medfield resident since 1995. In advance of the March 26th town election, the Medfield League of Women Voters sponsored a “Candidates' Evening” on Wednesday, March 21st in the Chenery Room (second floor of Town Hall). The evening was designed to introduce the …

Dear Editor: Medfield needs a Selectman who is involved in and knowledgeable about the town and its issues, and Medfield deserves a Selectman who is genuinely committed to the town's best interests. Pete Peterson is that person. Medfield Voting and Town Attendance records, located at the Town Clerk's office, show that Pete has attended every Town Meeting and has regularly voted in state, federal, and town elections since at least 1998, the date the electronic records started recording attendance and voting in Medfield. Pete's voting record, combined with his extraordinary record of public service (detailed at http://Medfield02052.wordpress.com), make Pete an ideal candidate for Selectman. Pete has been actively and continuously involved …

Medfield selectman Osler "Pete" Peterson is running for reelection in Monday's Town Election against challenger Nikolaos Athanasiadis. Peterson is hoping a victory will allow him to "continue the work" he started 12 years ago.
Osler “Pete” Peterson has been a member of the Medfield Board of Selectmen for the past 12 years but has been committed to public service much longer. “My mother instilled in me this idea of public service,” Peterson said. “She was always very active everywhere that she lived and we lived in a lot of different places but everywhere that we lived she found something that she was active in.” Inspired by his mother's work and his coming of age in the 1960s, "when politics was at the forefront," Peterson said he was always interested in the public process, which sparked his desire to get involved. After 12 years as selectman, Peterson still has a desire to be involved and is running for reelection against challenger Nikolaos Athanasiadis in …

Dear Editor, We are writing to urge Medfield voters to reelect selectman Pete Peterson. Pete's record as a selectman is commendable. Medfield has weathered the financial storms of the last several years without disastrous cuts in town services and Pete is part of the reason for that. He has also shown a concern for, and worked hard to address, long term issues that face us, from affordable housing to the state hospital to the declining commercial base. He has worked to bring new ideas to the Board of Selectmen discussion on these and other issues. He has been outfront on the 40B issue, helping organize and lead meetings and discussions. He has been active in several town groups. His work on the Medfield Foundation over the years has helped…

Medfield resident Patricia Patt writes in to support Osler "Pete" Peterson for selectman at the March 26 Town Election.
To the Editor, I wholeheartedly endorse Pete Peterson for selectman. Pete continues to be the best choice for the Board of Selectman seat he now holds. For those of you who are new to the town of Medfield, I recommend that you review Pete's credentials and accomplishments over the past decade. His efforts and hard work make Medfield a desirable place to live and work. Please endorse and vote for Pete at the upcoming town election. Sincerely, Patricia Patt Green Street, Medfield

With the selectman election quickly approaching, we would like to express our support for Osler “Pete” Peterson for reelection. Among the many attributes that have made him such an extraordinary selectman for the past 12 years are his vast know-how of financial and legal affairs, his ability to ask the right questions and make informed decisions, and the measures he has implemented in keeping citizens informed. Just as important are his strength of character and his enthusiasm towards local community involvement which we witnessed first-hand. A few years ago, while co-chairing a town-wide school fundraiser, we had a relationship with an unscrupulous company that without Pete’s help would have resulted in the loss of approximately $7,000 to…

Dear Editor, I am writing to encourage my fellow Medfield citizens to join me in voting on March 26th to reelect Pete Peterson as Selectman. I confess I can be a bit of a political cynic and probably would not be writing this endorsement had I not had the recent opportunity to work with Pete on a project near and dear to my heart. The Medfield Foundation Volunteer of the Year Awards were initiated by Pete in 2008 to recognize the generosity of time and spirit so prevalent in Medfield. In the years since - and nearly single-handedly - he has worked to shed a light on the unique giving character of our town, from the unsung volunteers who stuff envelopes to the committee chairs who drive the progress of good causes that benefit us all. As a …

I hope the selectman take action to form a committee on this as soon as possible. I dont understand the hesitation to do so. The town should be taking an active, engaged role in this process. As an abutter, I'm not just concerned about potential reuse of the land, I'm also concerned about when/if the buildings full of asbestos, come down? We need experts to guide the town on developing a process …   more ›
