School officials are considering expanding the pilot to the entire eighth grade next year, with the cost incurred by the families.
The iPad pilot program at Blake Middle School is going so well, that all eighth grade students may have the devices next year. At the Jan. 14, 2013, meeting of the Medfield School Committee, students and teachers from eighth grade Stars cluster demonstrated how the iPad has enhanced their educational experience. "The iPad pilot is meant to enhance student learning...It's been great," said Principal Nat Vaughn. "Why the iPad? For flexibility, portability, and engagement." The program teaches the students organization, use of digital presentation and learning tools, collaboration skills, communication skills between teachers and students, and fluid adaptation between learning and "do," Vaughn told the school committee. Medfield High School and Blake Middle School students participated in a joint assembly Friday to remember 9/11 and learn of the strength of community.
At 9:02 a.m. Friday, with an overcast sky – unlike the clear blue sky in 2001, over 1,500 students, teachers and administrators from both Medfield High School and Blake Middle School joined together on the Calvin George Fischer Memorial Football field to remember the events of 9/11, to honor those who served and died and to learn about the importance of community since that tragic day, 10 years ago. Medfield High School principal Robert Parga opened the program. He spoke about how today's senior students were in second grade in 2001 and some of the sixth graders were only a year old. He spoke of how the world has changed since that day and the fact that most of these children have experienced 9/11 through documentaries. "Almost …

Nathaniel Vaughn has spent the entirety of his career in education at Medfield's Blake Middle School. He began his first year as principal on Wednesday.
For Nathaniel Vaughn, Medfield has been the only place he has known as an educator and feels blessed to be entering his 14th year in the district. He’s excited too, because he began his first year as principal of Blake Middle School on Wednesday, the first day of classes for students. “I feel like a lucked out,” Vaughn said of being in the Medfield School District. “I’ve always really enjoyed leadership and I’ve always felt that I enjoy working with people and I enjoy the big picture, I like to think big. I always thought maybe I would be a principal, but it was more that I kind of lucked out. I feel lucky in the sense that I’ve been able to stay in the same community. The past couple years, there were a few opportunities that came up that…
