Letter to the Editor

Thanks from Chairman of Celebrate Lord's Committee

Celebrate Lord's Committee chairman Nancy Norris sends a note of thanks for all who helped make Friday's party a success.

To the Editor:  On February 15th our community honored the Medfield institution, Lord’s Department Store, in a wonderful celebration that took place at the store and will be remembered for years to come. Lord’s will close its doors for the last time on February 28th. I want to thank the following people and groups for their contributions and for giving so many people the gift of closure as we bid our beloved Lord’s farewell: Finally, I need to thank Nancy Kelly Lavin and Tom Kelly for graciously allowing us to invade the store for the party and for sharing photos and memorabilia with us. Nancy Norris, Chairperson of the Celebrate Lord’s Committee

Meeting on Saturday to Plan Lord's Celebration

The public is invited to a meeting on Saturday to plan an event to celebrate the impact of Lord's Department Store on the town of Medfield.

The public is invited to a meeting on Saturday, Jan. 12, at which community members will plan a commemorative event to mark the closing of Lord's Department Store. Lord's will close on Feb. 28 after 73 years in downtown Medfield. The meeting will take place at the Medfield Historical Society, 6 Pleasant Street, from 10 a.m. to noon. Preliminary plans include an electronic scrapbook and a time capsule. Organizer Nancy Norris said, "There is a growing number of Medfield residents who are interested in preserving the role of Lord's Department Store in the history and culture of the Town by inviting people to submit entries to a paper and an electronic scrap book to be presented to the Kelly family with a copy to be kept by the Historical …

A friend of mine said to me that when her family's been away, and they drive into town, when they see the Lord's sign, they know they are home. The sign symbolizes a lot of what …   more ›

Resident Starts Facebook Page to Remember Lord's

Nancy Norris wanted a way for people to deal with the loss of Lord's Department Store.

Nancy Norris created a Facebook page to help preserve the memory of Medfield's beloved Lord's Department Store which will close on Feb. 28 after 73 years in business. Norris' initial post on "Medfield Remembers Lords" explains her mission... On February 28, 2013 Lords Department Store will close its doors for the last time after 73 years of service to the town of Medfield, MA. Lords and the people who owned and operated it have been to this town much like what George Bailey was to Bedford Falls, New York in the film "It's a Wonderful Life". Can anyone imagine what Medfield would be today if Lords had never been. This Page is a place for people to share memories, sentiments, photographs, messages and any other expressions to preserve the …
