The HYP Studio in Medfield hosted a fundraiser this weekend that raised money for the family of Taylor Sack who was left paralyzed after a skiing accident last month.
A fundraiser for Taylor Sack, a Millis High School junior who was left paralyzed after a Feb. 22 skiing accident, raised over $8,500 this weekend. A two-hour "Ryde for Taylor Ryde-a-Thon" was held on Saturday at Medfield’s H.Y.P. Studio, 120 North Meadows Road, where people sponsored a bike and several people then took shifts riding to raise money for Taylor and his family. "It went great! We had over 60 'ryders' and we raised over $8,500," said organizer Katie O'Connell, who is also a family friend. "We want to give a big thank you to HYP, HYP staff, owners Dennis Ozer and Debra Goodman, and all the Ryders that came from all over -- Medfield, Sherborn, Medway, Millis, Sudbury, Natick, Duxbury, Norfolk, Holliston and more. A community run will be held on March 17 to raise money for the Sack family whose son Taylor was paralyzed in a Feb. 22 skiing accident.
A 5k run will be held on Sun., March 17 to benefit Taylor Sack and his family. Taylor Sack, a junior at Millis High School and captain of the 2014 Millis/Hopedale Mohawks (where he wears jersey #11), was skiing at Wachusett Mountain on Feb. 22, hit a tree, and is now paralyzed. The money raised will help the Sack family with expenses not covered by insurance. Race organizer Allison Maher says, "Our purpose is to provide immediate financial assistance to the family, along with bolstering the sense of community and support for Taylor." A fundraiser will be held in Medfield on Saturday to support Taylor Sack, the 2014 Millis/Hopedale football captain and 17-year-old, who was left paralyzed after a ski accident over school vacation.
The football teams of the Medfield Warriors and the Millis/Hopedale Mohawks have enjoyed a good relationship for quite some time. Many of the players from both teams played Viking Pop Warner together and the two football programs work out together over the summer, says Warriors head coach Erik Ormberg. In fact, the coaches are childhood friends, having attended Walpole High School together. Now, the two football communities are pulling together to support one of their players who was seriously injured over school vacation. Last week, the Medfield High School's Boys "Big Blue" Basketball team's seven game winning streak came to an end in Ashland. The team lost a hard fought game 55-47. Drew Shea lead the team with 16 points and John Zimmerman chipped in with 13. Friday night, the team got back on the winning track with a come-from-behind 60-48 win over a pesky Millis team. Down by one at the half, the team came out with much better focus and energy and held Millis to just 19 second half points. Drew Shea had 24 points and 10 rebounds, John Zimmerman had 19 …

After a 0-2 start the Medfield Big Blue Boy's Basketball team has won their last three games! Over the holiday break, the team traveled to non-league Weston where it escaped with a 58-53 win. Drew Shea scored a season high 31 points, and John Zimmerman chipped in with 10. On Dec. 29th, the team beat a pesky Millis squad 76-61. Remy Fragola scored a career high 26 points in the win, John Zimmerman also had a career high 23 points, and Matt Pembroke had a strong effort with 9 points and 5 assists. My prayers go out to Taylor, The Sack Family, and the community. My son is a junior on The Abington Green Wave team that played Taylor in the 2012 playoffs. As many also know we also had a very similar tragic accident in our home town of Abington with Nick Malafronte. He and his family are good friends to my family.
