Beth Eby Named 2013 Volunteer of the Year

Eby and others will be honored by the Medfield Foundation at a reception on March 10.

  The following press release was submitted by the Medfield Foundation. The Medfield Foundation proudly recognizes Beth Eby as its 2013 Volunteer of the Year for her “unfailingly diligent and tireless advocacy for the clients” of the Medfield Food Cupboard (MFC). “Beth devotes endless, days, nights and weekends working tirelessly to ensure that the MFC clients are well taken care of, both physically and emotionally,” say Medfield Foundation representatives.  Beth Eby began volunteering at the inception of the MFC in 1992 and has been President of the MFC for the last 15 years. She is the central organizer and contact for the MFC's board of directors, its 75 volunteers, as well as its many community partners, partnerships she mainly created…

Medfield Food Cupboard Provides Thanksgiving Dinner for 36 Families

The Medfield Food Cupboard held its annual Thanksgiving distribution this past week.

With the help of the Medfield Food Cupboard, 36 families will have a full table this Thanksgiving. The food cupboard depends on the generosity of individuals and groups in Medfield and neighboring communities in order to feed the families that depend on its service.    Local families were able to fill their bags with those items as well as donations of fresh potatoes, onions, carrots and garlic donated by the Wheelock School Victory Garden; homemade breads donated by the Medfield Neighborhood Brigade; five cases of water donated by the First Baptist Church; sugar pumpkins donated by Lovells Flowers and Nursery; and turkey donated by Armand P. Blake Collects Donations for Food Cupboard to Remember 9/11

Students at Blake Middle School brought in food on Sept. 11.

As part of a lesson on community, many students at Blake Middle School brought in donations for the Medfield Food Cupboard on Sept. 11. In addition to wearing red, white and blue to school on Tuesday, students and staff donated hundreds of food items for the food pantry. Blake's Dean of Students Kelly Campbell said the school started this particular food drive last year.  "Last year, in honor of the 10th anniversary of 9/11, as well as our school theme for the year - "community" - that Blake did a one-day food drive. Donations flooded the guidance office. It was so successful because of our generous community, we thought it was a meaningful and appropriate way to honor the national day of service and remembrance."  For a number of years, …

Shaw's: New Manager Will Continue to Support 'Blue Bag-it' Program

Shaw's new store manager, Bill White, said he will continue the "Blue Bag-it" program which supports the Medfield Food Cupboard. The program was created last year by Medfield High School senior Jane Garofalo.

Shaw's in Medfield has a new store manager who said he will continue the "Blue Bag-It" program, a convenient and popular way for shoppers to support the local food pantry.  Bill White, the new Medfield Shaw's Store Manager, said, "I've never seen anyone like [creator Jane Garofalo]...Shaw's is proud to be a part of this program." Garofalo is a Medfield High School senior and creator of the program that has come to be a crucial part of the food donations received during the summer months in Medfield.  She is thrilled that Shaw's will continue to support the program. ALERT: The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory warning for today between noon and 7 p.m. when “heat indices up to 103 degrees will result in dangerous conditions for those spending prolonged periods of time outside.”

The Medfield Food Cupboard needs the following items for June: Jelly (no grape please), juice (bottles and boxes), cereal, pasta sauce, canned pears, and snacks, but will gladly accept other non-perishable items. Please drop off these items at your local church any Sunday.

Medfield's Annual Post Office Food Drive is May 12

Annual food drive is largest source of donations for Medfield Food Cupboard.

Once again, the United States Postal Service employees in Medfield will work to help those in the community who are less fortunate and rely on the Medfield Food Cupboard for groceries.  On Saturday May 12, postal drivers will collect any bags of food left next to, or hanging from the flags of, mailboxes on their routes and deliver them to the Medfield Food Cupboard. Past postal service drives have resulted in thousands of contributed items, which fill the shelves before the summer. The postal workers are ready – now they need your help to make the drive successful. The items especially needed at this time include: juice (boxes or bottle), white tuna in water, canned fruit (pears, fruit cocktail), canned pasta, pasta sauce, canned chicken, …
