The Medfield Angels/Neighbor Brigade group is supporting three young people from Stoneham who were standing next to the second bomb when it exploded last week. Two of the three have lost part of a leg.
The Medfield Angels/Neighbor Brigade community group is raising money for the Webb and Norden families who were injured in last week’s Boston Marathon bombings. This message went out to Angels this week: One of our Angels contacted us this morning as she was greatly touched by this event. Family friends were severely injured at the Boston marathon last week. I'm sure many of you have heard their story. Jacqui Webb, her boyfriend Paul Norden and his brother JP Norden were badly injured in the horrific attacks. Jacqui has shrapnel damage to her legs and has undergone 2 surgeries and has a couple more to go. Her boyfriend Paul and his brother JP both lost their right legs and have already gone through several surgeries and still have more …

You can help a local couple with cancer.
The Medfield Neighbor Brigade is asking the community to help a local mom and dad as they each battle cancer. The couple has lost their housing and most of what they own in order to pay for their initial diagnosis, treatment, and care. Two weeks ago, the Medfield Angels/Medfield Neighbor Brigade (a group of more than 500 community volunteers who help their Medfield neighbors in need) received an initial call for help from Medfield Youth Outreach about a family in crisis. Both parents are being treated for cancer simultaneously and, because of their mounting medical needs, they have found themselves without a place to live, a job, or a car to drive. Meanwhile, their two young children, ages 3 and 1, have been staying with relatives out …

Washek lost her battle with cancer on Sunday, Dec. 2. Calling hours will be on Wednesday at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church of Weston, and a service will be held on Thursday at the same location.
A wife and mother and volunteering icon has died after a 10-year battle with cancer. Pam Washek, the co-founder of the Wayland Angel Food Network (now the Neighbor Brigade), passed away Dec. 2, according to an obituary published on Boston.com. Today, Wayland's chapter of Neighbor Brigade is just one of more than 30 in the state of Massachusetts. There is also a chapter operating in Nashua, N.H., as the only non-Massachusetts chapter at this time. The Medfield Neighbor Brigade chapter was founded in the fall of 2010 (the group started at the Medfield Angels earlier that year). Medfield founders Laurie Nealon and Kathleen Cahill sent a message to the Medfield Angels on Monday to share the news. "Pam started the Wayland Angels in 2001 and …

The Medfield Food Cupboard held its annual Thanksgiving distribution this past week.
With the help of the Medfield Food Cupboard, 36 families will have a full table this Thanksgiving. The food cupboard depends on the generosity of individuals and groups in Medfield and neighboring communities in order to feed the families that depend on its service. Local families were able to fill their bags with those items as well as donations of fresh potatoes, onions, carrots and garlic donated by the Wheelock School Victory Garden; homemade breads donated by the Medfield Neighborhood Brigade; five cases of water donated by the First Baptist Church; sugar pumpkins donated by Lovells Flowers and Nursery; and turkey donated by Armand P. P. Janjigian, CEO of the Kingsbury Club. "It truly takes the entire community" said Beth Eby, …

Drop off your excess candy on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 to be donated to soldiers and local community programs.
Are you looking at this year's Halloween candy, thinking, "What will we do with all this candy?" The Medfield Angels/Neighbor Brigade network has the answer: Donate it to community programs and soldier cheer boxes. The Angels will be collecting leftover Halloween candy again this year on Thursday and Friday. All candy -- loose or bagged -- is welcome. "We will be giving the unopened bags to Medfield Youth Outreach. They will use this candy for their different programs," said Laurie Nealon who, along with Kathleen Cahill, coordinates the program. "We will be giving the rest to the United Church of Christ for making cheer boxes for soldiers and also Operation American Soldier. Both of these organizations will be sending the candy to …

Medfield residents can donate "gently used clothing," sizes 4 to 18, to the Kids’ Closet, which has set up a bin at St. Edward's Church from Sept. 6-20 to help families in need.
It’s back to school time for the children of Medfield and with the creation of the Kids’ Closet; some of the town’s youth will be able to supplement their wardrobes as a result of the community’s generosity. For the next two weeks, Sept. 6-20, Medfield residents will have an opportunity to donate gently used clothing to the Kids’ Closet. Fall and winter clothing is preferred at this time and the items donated must be in “good” or “better” condition. All clothing in sizes 4-18, both boys and girls, must be washed and in wearable condition; no rips, no stains, no missing buttons or broken zippers. Personal items such as socks and underwear are not needed. Boys and girls shoes, in wearable condition, are also being requested, but no …

Medfield's Neighbor Brigade provides a way for town residents to offer support to families in temporary crisis.
Imagine having over 500 neighbors; all willing to lend a hand during times of crisis. Through the efforts of Medfield residents, Laurie Nealon and Kathleen Cahill, those helpful neighbors are one simple mouse-click away. “Laurie had been thinking, for awhile, that there was something that she wanted to do; something was pulling her to do something to give back to the community,” Cahill said. That “something” materialized when a friend from Medway told her about that community’s Neighbor Brigade. “Laurie thought it sounded great and said ‘Kathleen, you have to do this with me' and I thought that it sounded wonderful,” Cahill said. Together, they began organizing what eventually would become the Medfield chapter of the Neighbor Brigade. …
