Medfield High School Varsity Girls Basketball team beat Wellesley on Wednesday 43 - 24.   This was a hard fought defensive game, as you can tell by the score.  It exposed some of our weaknesses offensively but this is exactly why we scheduled games like this.   We went up 10 - 6 after the 1st, 26 - 13 after the 2nd, 38 - 15 after the 3rd. Defensively, we used a combination of full-court pressure defense and aggressive half-court defense to keep Wellesley's offense in check. Lauren Petit led the team in scoring with 15 points, 3 assists, 4…

Medfield's Lauren Petit Wins Regional 3-Point Contest

Medfield High School girls' basketball player Lauren Petit won a 3-point contest held at Keefe Tech over the weekend.

FRAMINGHAM – Lauren Petit, the starting point guard on the Medfield High School girls' basketball team, competed in and won a regional 3-point contest this past weekend at Keefe Tech in Framingham. "Lauren is a great shooter and works very hard at it, as well as all other parts of her game," said Medfield girls' basketball head coach Mark Nickerson. "After seeing her go five-for-five from three in the first quarter of our game against Ashland, I knew we were getting a glimpse of how special a player/athlete she is." The contest, according to Nickerson, is run by local officials and includes players from schools throughout the region, not just in the Tri-Valley League. Petit scored 15 out of a possible 21 points in the final round of the …

PHOTOS: Medfield Girls' Hoops Win 8th Straight

Medfield beat Bellingham, 69-39 Tuesday.

Tuesday's 69-39 win over Bellingham was a good example of the type of team the Medfield High School girls' basketball squad can be when they are at their best. "We are balanced," said Medfield head coach Mark Nickerson. "We had three players in double figures (Lauren Petit, Kate Thomas and Payton Ouimette). We are aggressive defensively in both the full and half-court; we had 17 steals and converted many of them into lay-ups. And we are efficient on offense; 28 for 61 from the floor (shooting 46 percent for the game.) When we are playing our best, we are tough to beat." Medfield raced out to a 16-0 lead in the first quarter before Bellingham hit three consecutive three-pointers to close the gap, 16-9 before the quarter closed with the …

Medfield Spoils Norton Girls Basketball Opener

The Warriors get 4 scores in double digits and Meghan Brown scores a game high 17 for the Lancers.

As successful as the game was for the Medfield Warriors, it was just as frustrating for the Norton Lancers. After keeping the score to within 3 almost midway though the second quarter, the Lancers fell apart as the Warriors beat the Lancers 68-20 in the first game of the season. Early signs in the first quarter indicated a defensive struggle, as both teams were hurting for points. With both teams tightening up on defense, it was going to take an extra strong offensive effort to win the game, and Medfield couldn’t get it early on. “That first quarter obviously a little frustrating for us. We need to play a lot better than that. We had looks that we should have been making that we weren't making,” said Medfield head coach Mark Nickerson. …

VIDEO: ‘Young, Talented’ Warriors Look to Stay Atop the TVL in Girls’ Basketball

Medfield looks to defend its TVL title with youth, depth at key positions on the basketball court this season.

The Medfield High School girls’ basketball team will begin its quest for a fourth straight Tri-Valley League title in Norton on Tuesday, Dec. 13 – tipping off the 2011-2012 season with goals much larger than a league title. “The goal is to win a state championship,” said Medfield girls’ basketball head coach Mark Nickerson. “Winning the league has been nice, it’d be nice to win the league again but Hopkinton didn’t win the league and ended up playing in the [TD Garden]. I would have traded places with them. They can have the league this year, we’ll take the state championship.” The 2011-2012 Warriors will have a much different look to its first unit as the team lost four starters from a year ago to graduation. Medfield lost the leadership …
