Ten-year-old Donates Birthday Gifts to Toys for Tots

McLean Conner, 10, asked his friends to bring toys that could be donated to the Toys for Tots program.

When McLean Conner was getting ready for his 10th birthday party, he decided to ask his friends to bring toys that could be donated to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. "We were a little embarrassed coming back from Birthday parties with industrial garbage bags full of gifts," said his parents, Penni and Nick Conner of Medfield. "We think he has begun to realize how fortunate he and his brother are (and our family as a whole), and that not all kids are guaranteed an enchanted Christmas like theirs," said Nick.  "This was his 10th Birthday and we think we will carry on this tradition every year.  We are so proud of his unselfish behavior." Police Station Successful Drop-Off Site For Toy Drive

Over 800 toys and $1,000 donated to 2010 Toys for Tots.

The response to this year's Toys for Tots drive was so overwhelming that, at times, it was difficult to get through the vestibule of the Medfield Police Station which served as a drop-off point this year. The successful Toys for Tots program is run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve, which collects new toys for children in need and distributes them as Christmas gifts.  "It was pretty good for the first year," said Officer Eric Pellegrini of the Medfield Police Department.  "This was the first year we had a donation drop-off at the station and I actually had to move some of the toys because the area was overflowing…It was a very, very good turnout."  Pellegrini collaborated with fellow Marine Frank Iafolla who has organized …
