A trial on the charges ended in a hung jury last year.
Former State Treasurer, Norfolk County Treasurer, and gubernatorial candidate Tim Cahill has agreed to pay a $100,000 fine, which will end the Commonwealth’s corruption case against the Quincy resident. Cahill will pay $25,000 a year out of his personal funds. CBS Boston reported that Cahill will not be able to run for office until he pays the fine. Attorney General Martha Coakley charged the former state treasurer with spending $1.5 million on lottery ads during his gubernatorial campaign in 2010. The Powerball lottery is played in 42 states, including Massachusetts and all six New England states. According to Powerball, the odds of winning the jackpot is 1 in 175 million. The odds of getting all 5 numbers and not the Powerball, earning $1 million, is 1 in 5 million.
