Letter: Medfield Residents Endorse Selectman Peterson for Reelection

Medfield residents Linda Hooke and Susan Weisenfeld write in to support Osler "Pete" Peterson for reelection.

With the selectman election quickly approaching, we would like to express our support for Osler “Pete” Peterson for reelection. Among the many attributes that have made him such an extraordinary selectman for the past 12 years are his vast know-how of financial and legal affairs, his ability to ask the right questions and make informed decisions, and the measures he has implemented in keeping citizens informed. Just as important are his strength of character and his enthusiasm towards local community involvement which we witnessed first-hand. A few years ago, while co-chairing a town-wide school fundraiser, we had a relationship with an unscrupulous company that without Pete’s help would have resulted in the loss of approximately $7,000 to…

Letter: Kathleen Brennan Asks Residents to Reelect Peterson for Selectman

Medfield resident Kathleen Brennan writes in to publicly endorse Osler "Pete" Peterson for selectman.

Dear Editor, I am writing to encourage my fellow Medfield citizens to join me in voting on March 26th to reelect Pete Peterson as Selectman. I confess I can be a bit of a political cynic and probably would not be writing this endorsement had I not had the recent opportunity to work with Pete on a project near and dear to my heart. The Medfield Foundation Volunteer of the Year Awards were initiated by Pete in 2008 to recognize the generosity of time and spirit so prevalent in Medfield. In the years since - and nearly single-handedly - he has worked to shed a light on the unique giving character of our town, from the unsung volunteers who stuff envelopes to the committee chairs who drive the progress of good causes that benefit us all. As a …

Letter: Bill Massaro Endorses Pete Peterson for Selectman

Medfield resident Bill Massaro writes in to voice support of Osler "Pete" Peterson and encourage the community to reelect the 12-year veteran.

To the Editor: I am writing this letter in support of Osler “Pete” Peterson’s reelection to the Medfield Board of Selectmen. As a 35-year resident, I am concerned about the direction the town will take at this most critical time when proven leadership and commitment to the betterment of Medfield and its current and future residents is of such importance. I have attended almost all of the Board of Selectmen meetings for the last two years. While my primary concerns are ensuring the adequacy of the state’s planned remediation of the hazardous waste at the former Medfield State Hospital and reducing the significant cost impact to the town of the proposed 440-unit redevelopment, I could not help but be impressed with selectman Peterson’s …

As a member of the four-person subcommittee that worked on the Medfield Foundation's volunteer program this past year, we had countless discussions about who should judge the awards. Over and over, I was impressed by Pete's personal commitment to a transparent and unbiased process that prohibited any of us (Pete included) from taking part in any aspect of the judging. As a result, we had six …   more ›

Letter to the Editor: Schilling Asks Residents to Vote Athanasiadis for Selectman

Medfield resident Curt Schilling writes in to ask fellow residents to vote Nikolaos Athanasiadis for selectman at the March 26 Town Election.

To the residents of Medfield, There can be no question that today, right now, our country is in as dire a situation as we've ever seen. At a national and global level, as well as a local and community level. The need for elected officials that truly have "service to the people" as their operating mandate is more urgent now than at any point in our lifetimes. I've had the honor and pleasure of knowing Nikolaos Athanasiadis for almost seven years now and consider it a privilege to call him a friend. I cannot think of one trait he is lacking when it comes to who you want serving in your interest as a Selectman for Medfield. Nick is extremely intelligent, passionate and committed. I've been able to witness his selflessness for years and when I…

Letter to the Editor: Medfield School Administrators and Staff are Community Champions

Medfield residents Dick and Deirdre Crowell write in to voice support of the Medfield Public Schools administration in light of its decision not to renew the contract of MHS lacrosse coach Bob Aronson.

Dear Editor, Medfield has a high school full of champions! Thanks to the strong leadership of Superintendent Robert Maguire, Principal Robert Parga, the wonderful system-wide faculty, the dedicated School Committee and supportive parents, our students have been able to achieve the goals they set before themselves.    Medfield Schools are consistently ranked top in the state for academics, music and arts and athletics. We all can be very proud of our students!  At the last three School Committee meetings, the issue of Medfield High School boys' lacrosse coach Bob Aronson’s contract has been discussed. We think Bob Aronson is an excellent coach and we appreciate the work he has done to get this program to its current level; however, we are …

Letter to the Editor: Selectman Peterson Seeks Reelection

Medfield Board of Selectmen chair Osler "Pete" Peterson writes in to ask residents for their vote at town election on March 26.

To the residents of Medfield, I am running for reelection as Medfield selectman. The election is on March 26, and I am asking for your vote. Over the next several weeks until the election,  I will be writing about the various contributions and efforts that I have made as a selectman and my goals. I hope that you will have a better understanding of who I am, what I have done and what I would like to continue to do for our town. Creating Access to Town Government and Information  It has not always been easy for Medfield residents to get information about emerging and ongoing town issues and concerns, and it has not always been easy for residents to  access  town government and town information. As a result, one of my main goals has been to …

Letter to the Editor: Selectman Peterson Keeps the Community Informed

Medfield residents Abby and Jeff Marble write in to publicly endorse the reelection of Osler "Pete" Peterson to the Medfield Board of Selectmen.

To the editor, We would like to publicly endorse the reelection of Osler “Pete” Peterson to the Medfield Board of Selectmen. We have personally known Pete for over 11 years. Pete works hard to keep informed not only about our town’s issues but also at the state level. He keeps informed of all laws, regulations and trends that have the potential to affect our town. Not only does he acquire information so that he can make informed decisions, he also freely shares this information throughout various forums in Medfield. Pete’s  blog, medfield02052.wordpress.com, is a very active forum in which you can read about issues affecting Medfield and the surrounding area and, most importantly, this is a place where questions on issues can be asked. We …

Letter to the Editor: Fiscal Guardian Pete Peterson Deserves Reelection

Medfield resident Jerry Cianciolo writes in to support Medfield Board of Selectmen chair Osler "Pete" Peterson for reelection.

“Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys,” said P. J. O'Rourke. Fortunately in Medfield, we have a selectman in Pete Peterson who shows restraint. He also dares to question the status quo, as the following two examples show: In my view, having a selectman who’s a gadfly – who doesn’t go along to get along - is an immense benefit. Since the majority of us don’t take the time to scrutinize every initiative, relying instead on a few words we read in the paper or hear from friends, I like having someone who’s willing to dig deep, mix it up, and ask the tough questions. With Peterson, I feel that my tax money has a fighting chance of being spent wisely. What Peterson’s overall approach reflects …

I wish people would not summit comments anonymously. If you support a candidate and take the trouble to post, please let us know who you are. I also take issue with your statement that the other Selectmen do not ask questions. You shouldn't have to put down the other members to build up your candidate. They all put in a tremendous amount of work and try to serve our community. Lets try and keep …   more ›

Letter to the Editor: Consider Nick Athanasiadis for Selectman at Town Election

Medfield resident Nikolaos “Nick” Athanasiadis writes in to ask the community to consider him for the open seat on the Medfield Board of Selectmen, which will be contested by chairman Osler "Pete" Peterson, at the March 26 Town Election.

To my fellow Medfield residents, My name is Nikolaos Athanasiadis and I would like to announce that I am running for a seat on the Medfield Board of Selectmen. The election will take place on March 26. I hope that you will take the time to vote at this important election and I am asking for your vote. Some of you may know me personally, some may have heard of me and some have no idea who I am. My family stumbled onto Medfield back in 1995 when we were looking for our first home. A friend of ours dragged us over to look at a location in Medfield and after my wife Reka and I agreed to take a look, it was love at first sight.  And so our lives in Medfield started. We only had Katrina at the time, but quickly had two more wonderful children, …

The Committee will be comprised of three teachers, three parents, two school committee members, two administrators and one community member. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please put your request in writing to me on or before  Friday, Feb. 17. In order to aid me in the selection, please include why you are interested and what expertise you might bring to this committee. I am interested in creating a committee with as much balance as possible. Please be aware that you must be able to attend meetings during the day or evening to conduct candidate screening and preliminary interviews. I hope that you will …
