Commemorative t-shirts will be sold to remember the iconic department store and to benefit the Bill Kelly Scholarship Fund.
Once word started to spread last week that Lord's Department Store will be closing next month, Nancy Kelly-Lavin was inundated with requests for Lord's souvenirs. “It seemed the moment the word got out about the store closing, I’ve had a flood of requests from people coming into the store looking for souvenirs,” said Kelly-Lavin who runs the store with her brother Tom Kelly. And so came the creation of the first-ever Lord's t-shirt with all of the profits going toward a scholarship fund in the name of her father, Bill Kelly who died in May, whom she says "is still the heart and soul of Lord’s." “I hope by creating and selling t-shirts, and directing the profits toward a scholarship fund to benefit the Medfield community and pay tribute …

Here is a quick look at the week of Dec. 30 to Jan. 5, and what a week it was.
Last week was a chilly week in Medfield, in more ways than one. The last few days of December and the first few days of January brought snow to the ground (as we were finally able to use our sleds), and a chill to our hearts as we learned that Lord's Department Store will be closing its doors after 73 years in downtown Medfield. On Sunday, hundreds of Medfield folks hit Hospital Hill to take advantage of last weekend's snowfall. Monday was the last day of business for Fresh Catch Seafood & Butcher Shop which closed its doors on January 1. A weekly column by Town Historian Richard DeSorgher. This week focuses on the closing of Lords and its colorful 73 year history in Medfield.
It is a landmark that is clearly identified with Medfield. It has been a part of the town’s heart and soul for just shy of 73 years. It is one of the last remaining Mom and Pop holdouts in this age of the big box stores. It is testimony to a family business that loved their hometown, operated on loyalty and the handshake, and taught their employees the values of hard work by example. It is, of course, Lord's Department Store and it is about to be sold and become a colorful part of Medfield’s very rich history. While the name of the store is Lord's, it is clearly the Kelly family that has made the store the institution that it is.
