Scott had been the athletic director at Ashland High School for the last two years.  His background includes teaching, coaching and athletic training.  He stared with the district on August 1. “He is highly regarded by his colleagues for his hard work and commitment to his student-athletes,” said MHS Principal Robert Parga in an email on Monday.  “Mr. Scott’s familiarity with the Tri-Valley League and experience in this role make him a great fit for Medfield.” “We’re pleased to have Eric on board,” said Superintendent of Schools Bob Maguire.  “He’s very knowledgeable of the Tri-Valley …

Report: HS Football Playoff Proposal Stalls

The Boston Herald reported Tuesday the state's Tournament Management Committee did not "universally approve" the MIAA football committee's proposal for a statewide playoff format.

The Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association's drive for a statewide high school football tournament that creates more postseason opportunities for schools and crowns a true state champion in all six divisions stalled Monday, according to an article in the Boston Herald. Tuesday's article in the Boston Herald, "Expanded Postseason Plan Falls Incomplete," reports while the state's Tournament Management Committee approved of the plan's basic concepts – voting 15-0 in favor – it was not comfortable with scheduling and had concerns with revenue sharing for non-playoff teams. Boston Herald reporter Dan Ventura writes: "Several committee members expressed concerns about how scheduling would be handled for Weeks 8-10 of the season …

Former Medfield High School boys' lacrosse coach Bob Aronson issued a statement Wednesday through the Organization to Reinstate Coach Aronson (ORCA) to thank the lacrosse community for its support and ask everyone to "move forward" with the school administration's decision not to renew his contract. Aronson, the only coach in the varsity program's 11-year history, was informed by the school administration this past December that his contract would not be renewed for the 2012 season and told by MHS principal Robert Parga the lacrosse program would be "going in a new direction," according to a press release issued by ORCA on March 1. Members of ORCA, led by chairman Robert Treiber II, attended the Feb. 13 and March 6 School Committee …

Medfield Coach Aims to Create 'Community of Competitors'

Erik Ormberg takes over the Medfield High School football program hoping to build a sense of pride, community and bond in a competitive and exciting environment.

Erik Ormberg found his identity in something he loved – football – and has the opportunity to share that passion every day as the new head coach of the Medfield High School football team.  While this is Ormberg's first year as a head coach, he has a wealth of football experience, including over a decade in the Medfield High School program. Ormberg has experience in all three phases of the game but says he has an affinity for defense.  "I played defense, defense is what I coached for 10 years as a coordinator," said Ormberg. "Being the defensive coordinator would assume you’re comfortable with that side of it but the other thing is your constantly scheming against the offense, so when the transition [to head coach] took place, I figured …
