Still looking for a last minute gift? Consider something from this list of the best children's books of 2012 from James Patterson's ReadKiddoRead Foundation.
Courtesy of the ReadKiddoRead Foundation Maurice Sendak once said that one of the best things about being a maker of children’s books was that his audience kept being born. It’s true, of course: The great books from years past are brand new to today’s children and teens. But let’s take a moment at year’s end to recognize the books being published now for our young people. Here’s a quick roundup of a dozen highlights of 2012. (For more, visit ReadKiddoRead.com and check out our reviews.) Animals are cherished all year long as important family members — here you'll find suggestions for thoughtful yet practical holiday presents for them and/or for people who adore their own.
During the holiday season it's more important than ever to try to get as much as you can, out of every gift you buy. "I think that our customers think of their pets as family members and are doing whatever they can to spoil them, just like their human family members (especially the children)!" said Amy …

Lord's just finished remodeling and expanding the toy department, just in time for holiday shopping.
After many long days and late hours at Lord's, Nancy Kelly-Lavin, her brother Tom Kelly, and their team have just completed a remodeling and expansion project for the "Toyland" area at Lord's. Raschel Gray, Kelly-Lavin's mentor and friend who was a hugely successful retailer herself, had a vision of changing up the toy area at Lord's so the products could be seen from Main Street and were move visible inside the store. Mom? Dad? The person who has everything? Let us know in our poll below!

And if they do like whatever you're thinking of buying them, maybe they already have it. For me, my grandmothers are the hardest to buy for. I know neither one of them wants "more stuff." And since I have a demanding job and one of my grandmothers lives on Martha's Vineyard, it makes it hard to treat them to lunch or a movie. So Medfield, we want to know ... Today's question: Who in your life is hard to buy for?

Columnist provides guide to holiday shopping.
Helmet? Check. Shoulder pads? Check. Rib pads? Check. Athletic supporter? Check. No, I'm not playing football in the high school Super Bowls this weekend or as quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts against our New England Patriots Sunday. Instead, I'm getting ready for a contact-sport much more physical than anything ever seen on the gridiron ... Christmas shopping. This column isn't really for those who are adept at shopping and navigating the perils of the mall. I'm extremely jealous of those people. I wish they would take me with them to do my holiday shopping. I'd even pay a fee. I went to a certain store the other day with a holiday wreath in its logo, and they have a bargain theme to their commercials. My brother-in-law calls it the…
