Gas Prices Surge More Than 30 Cents in a Month; Are You Driving Less?

The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline is now up to $3.69 -- does that affect your amount of driving?

Gas prices in Medfield continue their upward march, with prices reaching the highest point ever in February and up more than a quarter in the past month. AAA Southern New England said its survey of prices in Massachusetts on Monday found self-serve, regular unleaded gas averaging $3.72 per gallon, four cents higher than a week ago and up 31 cents over the past month. Today, the average price of a gallon of regular gas in Medfield is $3.69, slightly lower than the Massachusetts average. The least expensive gallon of gas in Medfield today is being sold at Cumberland Farms at $3.67 a gallon, followed by both Irving and Sunoco at $3.69 a gallon, and Gulf at $3.73 a gallon. Minor Diesel Spill at Main Street Gas Station in Medfield

Medfield Fire and Police responded to Sunoco Gas Station for a minor fuel spill Wednesday afternoon.

Medfield Police and Fire Departments responded to a call just before 1 p.m. Wednesday of a diesel fuel spill at Sunoco Gas Station at 212 Main St. next to Shaw's. "I was expecting the worse when I got there," said Medfield Police sergeant Daniel Burgess. "I thought we were going to have to shut down the road and it was going to be a huge spill but it was only a gallon or two.”  Medfield Fire Chief William Kingsbury and Engine 1 responded to the scene and worked near the creek past the parking lot. “We had to stabilize the area,” said Kingsbury. Burgess said the spill was mostly on the pavement and in the area of the gas station. “Very minor [spill],” Burgess said. “We taped off the area of the gas station where the spill was to keep …

Wondering where the cheapest gas in Medfield is? We found out for you.

With gas prices rising well over $3/gallon to begin 2011 and everyone looking to save money in this economy, especially after the holidays, Medfield Patch went around town to find out which gas station had the cheapest gas. Here's what we found: The Gulf Station on 270 Main St. and the Irving Station on Spring Street (Route 27) currently have regular unleaded gas priced at $3.12/gallon. The Gulf Station also offers the best special in town if you're looking to kill two birds with one stone while running errands.
