Punxsutawney Phil Does Not Find His Shadow

The Groundhog Day tradition predicts an early spring this season.

Good news New Englanders, the Groundhog did not see his shadow Wednesday.  You may not be able to believe it with the nasty string of winter weather we have faced recently, but spring is coming, according to Punxsutawney Phil. Feb. 2, Groundhog Day, is a 125-year-old tradition in Punxsutawney Pa. that determines the expected arrival of spring and departure of winter by a groundhog's shadow. But not just any groundhog, the Punxsutawney Phil groundhog. This Pennsylvania native comes out of his burrow on Gobbler's Knob each February to predict the weather for the rest of winter. If Phil sees his shadow, six more weeks of the wintry mess ensues, if he doesn't, start looking forward to an early spring.  On Wednesday, there was no shadow to be …

Police Chief: Medfield 'Will Take Days' To Heal From Storm

More than 55 incidents of downed wires, broken tree limbs and trees down were reported Wednesday.

Wednesday's storm that slammed Medfield with 18.5 inches of snow left the town damaged and recovering Thursday, according to Medfield Chief of Police Robert E. Meaney Jr.  "There is a lot of damage around town that will take days to deal with," Meaney said. "That does not include the various trees that were damaged on private property and the number of electric service lines that were torn from the side of houses." The main problem caused by the heavy snow in town was downed wires and tree limbs that "interfered with snow removal operations," according to Meaney.  "Some limbs were moved by firefighters or officers and others required the Highway Department with chain saws and front end loaders," Meaney said.  Much of Medfield was without …

Storm Likely To Hit Harder In Western Mass.

National Weather Service says Medfield may see 1 to 2 inches Friday with 2 to 4 inches possible by Sunday morning.

It appears the worst of this weekend's snowstorm is headed out towards Western Massachusetts and Medfield is likely to see up to an inch of snow Friday night, according to the National Weather Service in Taunton. “We’re not looking for a big impact on this,” said National Weather Service forcaster Charlie Foley. Reports Say Storm Unlikely

Storm likely to miss Medfield, head out to sea. Light snowfall may be in forecast.

The winter storm that was expected to hit hard in Medfield and surrounding towns throughout the Greater Boston Area, appears to have been nothing more than a false alarm. While weather in New England is often unpredictable, Channel 5's David Brown reported Saturday morning that there will be "no heaping amounts of snow." Brown said, while a storm has developed, it will roll out to sea. Residents in Medfield may still see some light snowfall, however. The National Weather Service reported on its website that the storm's track is uncertain and it has not posted any severe weather alerts. In Medfield, reports call for a 20 percent chance of light snowfall after 3 p.m. Sunday and increases to 30 percent after 9 p.m. Chance of snow remains in …
