No injuries sustained in Monday's fire. Medfield Fire Chief says department will assess damage, investigate cause of fire today.
The apartment fire that occurred Monday evening in Building 3 of the Wilkens Glen Apartment Complex on 909 Wilkens Glen Rd. and Brook Street has left tenants of six units without a home. “[The tenants] of the apartment where the fire was heated will be out for awhile,” said Medfield Fire Chief William Kingsbury. “The other five apartments had to find housing and be with family for the night and we are going to assess it further today to see if they can get back in. Some may be out for a longer duration until the apartments are clean.” No one was injured but one apartment was heavily damaged from a fire that, according to Kingsbury, likely “started in the kitchen area,” but as of now he cannot confirm what caused the fire. “One apartment …

Medfield has been hit with 12.5 inches of snow already with more to come.
Medfield Chief of Police, Robert E. Meaney Jr., has advised town residents to stay off the roads if possible because the heavy snow is causing problems on the roads. "All roads are snow covered and some roads are not plowed from side to side and are more narrow than normal due to trees hanging over the road," Meaney said Wednesday morning. "Once the storm has ended, it will be several hours before the roads will be cleared." Medfield has already received 12.5 inches of snow as of 11 a.m. Wednesday, according to Medfield Weather with more expected to fall throughout the day. Meaney said the snow has a higher water content than originally thought "which in turn causes the tree branches to crack down and fall on the wires." The heavier snow …

A reminder from Medfield Patch and Fire Safety.
After being buried under more than a foot of snow Sunday and Monday, the forecast for the rest of the week calls for temperatures above freezing - turning some of the remaining ice and snow on the roads to water and slush. According t0 the National Weather Service, high temperatures this week will continue to climb, reaching the low to mid-forties by this weekend. While good news for some, this could be bad news for kids looking to spend their winter vacation sledding or ice-skating around town. As the temperatures rise and the ice melts, here are a few winter fun safety tips from Fire Safety: Ice Safety: What should I do if I fall through the ice? What if I see someone fall through the ice? Sledding Tips: Most of all, watch your young …

Chief Meaney says town responded well to storm, was fortunate for its timing.
The 13.5 inches Medfield received between Sunday and Monday did not cause any significant problems or incidents in town, according to Medfield Chief of Police Robert Meaney Jr. "All the roads have been plowed but due to lack of traffic, which is great, many were still covered with snow," said Meaney. "Salt, sun and traffic will deal with this." Meaney said there were a couple of minor motor vehicle accidents – cars going into snow banks – "but nothing significant and no injuries." "The log was very quiet, mostly ambulance runs and a few calls for smoke in the house – dryer, cook stove and a faulty alarm," Meaney said. Meaney said there were no power outages reported in the area and the traffic was very light Monday. "Some businesses didn't…

Millis police chief says District Attorney will now handle case of Medfield's Robert Piccirillo's death.
The Millis police department's investigation of Robert Piccirillo's death earlier this month appears to be closed, according to Millis police chief Peter McGowan. "The investigation is pretty much closed, it is in the hands of the District Attorney now," said chief McGowan. "There doesn't seem to be any foul play. The state police filed paper work which is 8 to 10 weeks out, best case scenario." Chief McGowan said in cases like these, reports may not be received in upwards of six to seven months due to other priorities. He also said while they're waiting on the toxicology reports to come back, they are confident the cause of death was drowning. "Toxicology we are waiting on, but the District Attorney told us the cause of death appeared …
