Resident Starts Facebook Page to Remember Lord's

Nancy Norris wanted a way for people to deal with the loss of Lord's Department Store.

Nancy Norris created a Facebook page to help preserve the memory of Medfield's beloved Lord's Department Store which will close on Feb. 28 after 73 years in business. Norris' initial post on "Medfield Remembers Lords" explains her mission... On February 28, 2013 Lords Department Store will close its doors for the last time after 73 years of service to the town of Medfield, MA. Lords and the people who owned and operated it have been to this town much like what George Bailey was to Bedford Falls, New York in the film "It's a Wonderful Life". Can anyone imagine what Medfield would be today if Lords had never been. This Page is a place for people to share memories, sentiments, photographs, messages and any other expressions to preserve the …

Would You Pay to Use Facebook?

The social media giant is testing a fee service to send messages with a small group in the U.S.

Soon, Facebook might have a message for users wishing to send notes to the inboxes of people who aren't friends. Pay $1 first. Facebook is testing that fee service "with a small percentage of individuals—not businesses—in the U.S.," the Associated Press reported Thursday. "The company says charging for messages could help discourage spammers," the AP said.                   Would you pay the fee? Tell us in the comments section.

The National Sandy Hook Sympathy Card: Have You Signed It?

If you're like most, you've received countless invitations on your Facebook page.

While posts on Twitter and Facebook are predominantly, and understandably, focused on the mass murder at the Sandy Hook Elementary School on Friday, perhaps the most viral is the "PETITION: SIGN the Sandy Hook Elementary School National Sympathy Card." Surely you've gotten more than one "your voice will make a difference" and link to the petition on your Facebook page. As reported on the cause's page, in less than 48 hours, 1,000,000 had signed the card, and it had been shared more than a million times. The "cause" post serves as both a sympathy card and petition, which will be delivered to Newtown, CT. The card reads, in part, "Our Sincere Condolences. We wish to express our deepest sympathies to all of the families of those lost, to the …

SOUND OFF: Over-Sharing Parents, Beware

Sites mock parents who share "too much" information about their kids on Facebook. What do you think?

It's super exciting that your little toddler piddled in the potty for the first time and you want to share photographic evidence of the moment with all of your friends on Facebook. Well, you might want to reconsider before you hit the "share" button.  There are a slew of websites these days dedicated to informing over-sharing parents that their childless friends are over reading about their kid's crap, literally. Take for instance, the blog ST*U, Parents, a submission-based "public service" blog that pokes fun at parents whose Facebook statuses have been hijacked with inane updates about their children. The author of the site, known simply as "B," created the blog in 2009 in response to annoying parental over-share posts that popped up in …

Question of the Day

Poll: Should Hiring Companies Ask for Facebook Information?

Some employers are asking prospective employees for Facebook log-in information ... should they be?

With thousands of college students graduating this spring, employers will be receiving a plethora of resumes from potential employees ... but will they be receiving Facebook log-in information as well? Maybe. Imagine interviewing for a job and having that employer ask for your Facebook log-in information in order to get a better look at your personal life.  That's exactly what some hiring companies are doing across the country, according to a Boston.com report in March. The legality of the move is being called into question, and is actually being brought to the forefront in such states as Illinois and Maryland, where proposed legislation would forbid public companies from asking for such information, according to Boston.com. So Medfield, …
