House Passes $32.4B FY13 Budget with Local Aid Increases

The House of Representatives approved a fiscal 2013 state budget bill that would increase funding for key municipal and education aid accounts by $105 million over the amount recommended by the governor in January.

On Thursday, the House of Representatives passed its Fiscal Year 2013 state budget in response to Governor Deval Patrick's $32.3 billion proposal, which was filed on Jan. 25th, according to a release issued on the state's official website, Mass.Gov.com. "The final budget, after it is enacted by the Legislature and approved by the Governor, will take effect on July 1, 2012 and run through June 30, 2013," according to the state's website. Schools Roundup: School Committee Appoints Chair, New Dale Street School Principal and MHS Highlights

Here’s a roundup of school news and notes gathered from the Monday, April 9 School Committee meeting.

The first order of business for the School Committee Monday was naming a new chair to replace chairman Susan Ruzzo, who opted not to run for reelection after nine years of service on the board. Christopher Morrison, the committee’s recording secretary, nominated vice chair Debbie Noschese to be appointed chair, which was approved unanimously by the committee. “I accept,” Noschese said. “Thank you.” The committee also welcomed new member Maryanne Sullivan, who was voted into the position at the March 26 Town Election. “I want to welcome Maryanne Sullivan,” Noschese said. “Welcome aboard and we are glad to have you. Medfield Schools Roundup: New Principal, Budget Updates and Energy Savings

Here’s some news and notes from around the Medfield Public School District.

Medfield Schools Superintendent Bob Maguire announced at Monday’s School Committee meeting that a decision has been made regarding the search for the next principal of Ralph Wheelock Elementary School. Donna Olson, principal at Raymond C. LaPerche Elementary School in Smithfield, R.I., was recently appointed by Maguire to become the next principal at Ralph Wheelock Elementary School. “She’s excited and ready to go,” Maguire said. “My plan is to organize a reception so the faculty over at Wheelock will have the opportunity to meet with her and do some sort of activity where parents can get introduced. Medfield Schools Roundup: Woodland Theatre Company, FY13 Budget Update and Virtual Schools

Here’s some news and notes from around the Medfield Public School District.

The buzz around the Woodland Theatre Company’s recently formed partnership with Medfield High School has been overwhelmingly positive. The company debuted in Medfield with its three-day production of "Cabaret" in the Lowell Mason Auditorium at the end of January and will be providing workshops to interested Medfield High School drama and theatre students. Medfield High School senior Andrew Velichansky is involved in drama and theatre at MHS and spoke highly of the school’s involvement with Woodland Theatre Company. Velichansky, who is the stage manager for the MHS drama club, worked with crew members during Woodland Theatre’s production of "Cabaret." “It was a great experience,” Velichansky said. “It was a great learning opportunity for me…

Selectmen Agenda: FY13 Budget and State Hospital Update

The Medfield Board of Selectmen meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. on the second floor of Town Hall.

The Medfield Board of Selectmen will hold appointments with Town Treasurer Georgia Colivas and SHERC chairman John Thompson before addressing other town business at Tuesday's meeting. The meeting is expected to begin with a visit from Town Treasurer Georgia Colivas as she will request the selectmen vote to sign documents related to the Feb. 15 sale of bonds. Following that meeting with Colivas, selectmen will meet with Thompson to discuss SHERC's recommendations to the selectmen presented at the Feb. 7 selectmen meeting. SHERC is requesting the town seek legal counsel to better understand its options regarding its desire to completely remediate the C&D area of the former Medfield State Hospital. The Medfield School Committee meets Monday to discuss the latest happenings around the district.

The Medfield School Committee will meet Monday to discuss the following business: The Medfield High School Student Advisory Council will meet with the committee to discuss grade-by-grade what is happening in the high school and what's on the horizon. Medfield Superintendent of Schools Bob Maguire will update the committee on the fiscal year 2013 budget process. At the committee's last meeting, it adopted Maguire's recommendation of a .87 percent budget increase over FY12. School Committee Agenda: FY13 Budget Public Hearing, Scholarship and School Trips

The Medfield School Committee meets Monday to discuss the latest happenings around the district.

It's budget season in town and the Medfield School Committee will meet Monday to hold its fiscal year 2013 budget public hearing with Superintendent of Schools, Bob Maguire. At its Jan. 10 meeting, the school committee was tasked with reviewing Maguire's FY13 budget recommendation and to be ready to vote on whether to endorse the budget proposal as its own recommendation at Monday's meeting and submit it to the town's Warrant Committee. Maguire is expected to go over his budget recommendation, which calls for a less than one percent increase in the district's general budget. Meeting Notes: School Committee Discusses Capital Budget, Dale Street School

The Medfield School Committee met Monday at Medfield High School to discuss business around the school district.

The Medfield School Committee spent the majority of Monday’s meeting reviewing and discussing the district’s capital budget for FY13 that was proposed by Charles Kellner, director of finance and operations of Medfield schools. Kellner highlighted capital project proposals at the Dale Street School, Wheelock School, Blake Middle School and Medfield High School that would cost $226,245 in 2012-2013. The most crucial among those projects, according to Kellner, is replacing the 70-year-old mahogany gym floor at the Dale Street School. “After 70 years, it’s time to replace it,” Kellner said.  Committee Tim Bonfatti raised the question of spending money to replace a gym floor in a building that will likely undergo significant renovations within …

The Medfield School Committee meets Monday to discuss the latest happenings around the district.

The Medfield School Committee is expected to review the district's Special Education Coordinated Program and discuss the latest of the Fiscal Year 2013 school budget and the principal search at Dale Street School during Monday's meeting at Medfield High School. Medfield Superintendent of Schools, Bob Maguire will update the committee on the FY13 budget as well as the capital budget for FY13. Maguire has said at previous school committee meetings that he is "cautiously optimistic" of this year's budget process and believes the district can make improvements with minimal increase to the budget.
