Starting with an Easter Egg Hunt today at 9:30 a.m. and ending with Easter dinner Sunday night.
The whole family, even the children, can participate in making these holiday treats.
This Sunday is Easter, a Christian holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. But it is also a family day with egg hunts, nice outfits, chocolate bunnies and good food. Here are some Easter recipes that are not too complicated and/or fun, so everybody can contribute—even the children. Enjoy! Bunny Cake (Lawrenceville Patch) Ingredients Directions Heat oven to 350 degrees (325 for dark pans). Bake and cool cake as directed on the box for two 9-inch round pans. Using one of the cake layers, cut in half down center of cake. Put the halves together with frosting, flat side down, to form the body of the bunny. Cut out a notch about a third of the way up one end of the body in the front to form a small head. Use one half of the …

A recent poll shows Massachusetts is up there with the least-religious states.
Gallup recently published a poll that listed the most, and least, religious states in the country. The poll showed that the most religious states included Mississippi, Utah and Alabama, while Massachusetts ranked as being 28-percent "very religious," which was only slightly higher than the least: Vermont and New Hampshire. "Gallup classifies 40 percent of Americans nationwide as very religious—based on their statement that religion is an important part of their daily life and that they attend religious services every week or almost every week. Here are some ideas on explaining the meanings behind Easter and Passover to your kids.
It’s a busy time! And honestly, I’m not a religious school teacher so I really can not get into too much detail about these two holidays without getting myself into trouble. What I do know is that Easter and Passover have been enmeshed from the beginning. The celebration of Passover (Friday) takes place just before Easter (Sunday). The benefits of explaining religious differences to your children helps them embrace diversity which will result in them feeling more worldly, and enriched. So why we celebrate these occasions? Make things easy on yourself, learning through play is the best way. These are fabulous holiday activities that'll make the meanings behind both Easter and Passover resonate, offer up a ton of creative fun and likely …

Life lessons and a Greek Easter recipe straight from Yaya's kitchen.
"Eat something you must be hungry," my Yaya (Grandmother in the Greek language) would always recite to me when I came to visit. In the Greek culture, food is important, but not because of the obvious reasons such as taste and comfort. Some of the most important conversations in my life have occurred around food. Whether cooking in the kitchen, heading out to dinner or enjoying a late night snack, food brings people together. What I learned to cook in my Yaya's kitchen dosen't measure up to the life lessons that I learned. Every Greek Easter, my family gathers in my Yaya's kitchen for a day filled with good food, great conversation and life lasting memories. One of my favorite recipes of the Easter holiday is Tsoureki, pronounced, 'tsoo-REH…

You make a good point that a concept of God might not be involved in church attendance. Neither is church attendance necessarily involved in a concept of God. That is why I said the poll only accurately measures church attendance. The '"spin" put on this by using the word religion in the original question is misleading.   more ›
