Attorney General Urges Donors to Watch Out for Scams

AG Martha Coakley warns residents about potential scammers.

The following was taken from an advisory issued by the Office of the Attorney General issued after the Boston Marathon bombings.  Attorney General Martha Coakley reminded those who want to give to support victims of the Boston Marathon attacks to do their homework first to ensure the charity is reputable. More than 125 website domain names relating to the Boston Marathon explosions were registered within a few hours of the attacks Monday, according to Consumer Affairs Undersecretary Barbra Anthony. Fraudulent websites have popped up in the aftermath of other national tragedies, including the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Newtown. Middle School Collecting Coats for Families in Need

Blake Middle School students SIPS (Sudents in Public Service) Students, under the direction of Social Studies teacher, Michael Gow, are holding their annual gently-used coat drive sponsored by Anton's Cleaners. Over the past eight years, SIPS students have collected nearly 800 coats.  These coats have helped needy families across multiple neighborhoods in Massachusetts. Parents and students are encouraged to help by donating "gently used" coats through Friday, January 11. Donation boxes are located at the main entrance to the school.

The Red Cross Responds to Help Springfield Tornado Victims‎

The Red Cross is accepting donations to help Springfield tornado victims.

Wednesday's tornadoes across Springfield and 19 other communities have caused extensive damage, at least 200 injuries and killed 4 people. Over 300 people have sought shelter relief. Many residents have lost their homes and buildings and churches have been damaged and cars are turned upside down. The weather in central Massachusetts, including two damaging tornadoes in the Springfield area, forced Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick to issue a State of Emergency Wednesday. Patrick has mobilized up to 1,000 members of the National Guard to help in search and rescue and debris cleanup. The Pioneer Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, which provides response services to people in Central and Western Massachusetts, is accepting donations…

PMC Medfield Kids Ride Raised $12K for the Pan-Mass Challenge

The May 15th event in Medfield raised $12,000 and to date, the PMC Kids Rids program has raised more than $3 million for the Pan-Mass Challenge.

More than 135 children raised $12,000 for the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge by riding in The PMC Medfield Kids Ride, on Sunday, May 15. Children, ages four through 14 rode around Medfield High School in Medfield. The PMC Medfield Kids Ride was founded in 1998 by Ryan Wilkinson. The PMC Medfield Kids Ride held a party after the ride, which included a DJ, refreshments, and face painting. Funds raised through the PMC Medfield Kids Ride benefit the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge, which supports cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund.  PMC Kids Rides involve young people in volunteerism and charitable giving, while providing safe and fun opportunity to become involved in the PMC mission. Eager to help families in need, third grade Medfield Brownie Troop 74881 ran a food drive and dropped off 15 bags of much needed items to the Medfield Food Cupboard. The girls urge town residents to donate food to the Medfield Food Cupboard during the summer, when supplies tend to run low.

A group of five girls raised money for Olivia Bonfilio and donated it at Sunday's "Walk for Olivia" event.

Fifth Graders Give Back with Donation to Medfield Food Cupboard

Two Medfield fifth grade girls' service groups co-sponsored a dance a the Dale Street School's cafeteria on May 14 to raise money for the Medfield Food Cupboard. On May 20, the girls presented that donation, along with groceries collected to the Cupboard.

The efforts of two Medfield fifth grade community service groups will help provide goods to 45 families in town, according to Beth Eby, president of the Medfield Food Cupboard. Girls from the groups "Friends Helping Friends" and "Happy Helping Hands" came together to plan an event to help raise money and goods for the Medfield Food Cupboard. The event was a father-daughter fundraiser dance for fourth and fifth grade girls held at the Dale Street School cafeteria on May 14 and the result was roughly 100 people in attendance and nearly $600 raised as well as groceries received to be donated to the Cupboard.  "[The girls] really owned the event," said Diane Smith, a parent involved in the Friends Helping Friends group. Whiz Kids' Accomplishments: The sister and brother raised $52 at a lemonade stand at the Ralph Wheelock School soccer field to benefit the Medfield Animal Shelter.
