Medfield Girls' Hoops Cruise Past Hingham; Advance to Saturday's Quarterfinals

Medfield dispatches Hingham from state tournament with 77-25 victory Thursday and advance to Saturday's quarterfinals, where the Warriors will take on TVL foe Hopkinton.

The Medfield High girls' basketball team made quick work of Hingham in Thursday's first round of the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional State Tournament with a 77-25 victory over the Harbormen. The number two seeded Warriors outscored Hingham 20-6 in the first quarter, including a 15-0 run, to take control of the game right out of the blocks and did not allow the underdogs to build confidence. Medfield's press forced 20 turnovers by halftime and kept Hingham from getting into an offensive flow. Medfield head coach Mark Nickerson was impressed by the way his team jumped opened the tournament. "We got off to a nice start," Nickerson said. Medfield Boys' and Girls' Indoor Track Competes in State Meet

Girls' finish ninth in Division 3 State Meet; Boys' tracksters place in several events.

BOSTON – On this past Saturday, 35 towns competed in the Division 3 state meet at the Reggie Lewis Center, including Medfield.   MHS' Alex Stanton won first place gold in her two events, the 55 meter hurdles and the 600 meters.  The senior, who has committed to run division I for Brown University next year, currently holds nine Medfield High School track records.  The girls' team placed ninth overall, racking up more points with a fourth place finish in the 4x200 relay run by Kate Piersak, Mekenzie Smith, Taylor Worthy and Kristina Gustafson.   Gustafson, a freshman, also had a strong …
