MCPE Invites Community to Spring Fling to Support Medfield Public Schools

The Medfield Coalition for Public Education invites you to join its efforts to support Medfield Schools with a spring fling fundraiser on April 27.

The Medfield Coalition for Public Education is inviting the community to participate in its biggest fundraiser of the year on April 27 – a spring fling. "The entire community is invited to join us in a night of dancing, drinks, hors-d’oeurves, and small auction; all in an effort to plant seeds of enrichment for our children in the years to come," said Joy Moon, a publicity representative for MCPE. The Spring Fling will be held at the Endicott Estate in Dedham and invitation and ticket information can be found online at www.medfieldcoalition.org. The parents and families of the Dale Street School students were entertained Valentine's evening by the students in the fourth grade chorus, the fifth grade recorder ensemble and the fourth grade string ensemble. The first group to perform, under the leadership of chorus director, Barbara Oxholm, and accompanied on the piano by Nicole Flynn, were 52 fourth grade students. A few students from the chorus were featured on bass, piano, xylophone and metallophone as well. The chorus harmonized and entertained on the stage of the Lowell Mason Auditorium at Medfield High School in front of a packed audience. Meeting Notes: School Committee Discusses Capital Budget, Dale Street School

The Medfield School Committee met Monday at Medfield High School to discuss business around the school district.

The Medfield School Committee spent the majority of Monday’s meeting reviewing and discussing the district’s capital budget for FY13 that was proposed by Charles Kellner, director of finance and operations of Medfield schools. Kellner highlighted capital project proposals at the Dale Street School, Wheelock School, Blake Middle School and Medfield High School that would cost $226,245 in 2012-2013. The most crucial among those projects, according to Kellner, is replacing the 70-year-old mahogany gym floor at the Dale Street School. “After 70 years, it’s time to replace it,” Kellner said.  Committee Tim Bonfatti raised the question of spending money to replace a gym floor in a building that will likely undergo significant renovations within …

Selectmen Meeting Notes: Town Officials Remember Pauline Goucher

Pauline Goucher, a 31 year employee of the town before retiring in 1991, passed away Sunday. On Tuesday, Medfield town officials remembered Goucher before discussing other town business.

Prior to the start of Tuesday’s Board of Selectmen meeting, town officials took time to remember a friend and former colleague who recently passed away. News reached Medfield this week of Pauline Goucher’s death on Jan. 1 in Georgia. Goucher, according to a statement read by Board of Selectmen chair Osler “Pete” Peterson at the beginning of Tuesday’s meeting, worked with 21 selectmen in the town for 31 years, retiring in February 1991. “She was a valuable member of the community and had a wealth of information about town government and town history,” Peterson read. “She will be missed by her many friends and colleagues.” Goucher served as an administrative assistant to the Board of Selectmen for “many years,” according to Town …

Meeting Notes: Selectmen Talk Dale St. School and Master Plan, Library Budget and State Hospital

The Medfield Board of Selectmen spent the majority of a two-hour meeting Tuesday discussing a statement of interest for renovations to the Dale Street School and fielding frustrations and concerns from residents over the Medfield State Hospital.

The Medfield Board of Selectmen met Tuesday night at Town Hall to discuss the following topics and issues in town: Dale Street School Statement of Interest Tim Bonfatti, a member of the Medfield School Committee and Permanent Building Committee and Bob Maguire, Medfield's Superintendent of Public Schools, met with the selectmen Tuesday to discuss a statement of interest they would like to submit to the Massachusetts School Building Authority regarding possible funding for renovations at the Dale Street School. “As you may know, under the Mass. Maguire to Conduct Separate Principal Searches for Elementary Schools

Bob Maguire, Medfield Superintendent of Schools, said the district will begin one of two principal searches at the Ralph Wheelock School this month.

There are currently two elementary schools in the Medfield School District without principals – Dale Street and Ralph Wheelock. While these two schools are currently under the interim leadership of two experienced and accomplished educators, the time to permanently fill these positions is rapidly approaching. Bob Maguire, Medfield Superintendent of Schools, said he plans to begin the principal search process with the Ralph Wheelock School and once that position is filled, he will focus his attention on the Dale Street School. “[The process] will begin this month, which basically will be based around trying to begin forming the search committee and also beginning the process of advertising [for the committee and principal position],” …

Medfield Korean War Veterans to Be Honored Thursday at Dale Street School

A ceremony will be held at Dale Street School Thursday, Nov. 10 at 9 a.m. to honor Medfield’s Korean War Veterans with a plaque at the entrance of the building.

On Thursday, students at the Dale Street School will participate in a unique assembly as they engage and learn about Veterans Day through a ceremony honoring Medfield’s Korean War veterans. “There’s going to be a student assembly to help the students honor and recognize Veterans Day and in this case the veterans from the Korean War,” Bob Maguire, Superintendent of Medfield Public Schools said. “[The veterans are] going to be on the stage and introduced and there will be a school-based ceremony with the kids involved.” Thursday’s ceremony is a continuation of the ceremony held outside Dale Street School on May 27 as Medfield’s Veterans’ Plaque Committee honored the town’s World War II veterans with a plaque rededication at the entrance of …

Agenda: Medfield School Committee to Discuss Budgets, Principal Searches

The Medfield School Committee will meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the TV Production classroom of the high school.

The Medfield School Committee will meet Monday to discuss the elementary school principal searches and hear budget updates for fiscal years 2012 and 2013. The committee's agenda shows it is expected to discuss the next steps in the elementary school principal searches for Ralph Wheelock School and Dale Street School. Superintendent of Schools, Bob Maguire, is expected to address the appointment of a search committee and call for two members of the School Committee to be actively apart of the search. Maguire said the timeline to fill the vacancies is "hopefully by the end of January." Medfield’s Veterans’ Plaque Committee Looks to Honor Korean War Veterans

The committee has set a target date of Nov. 10 for the unveiling of the planned Korean War Veterans plaque to be displayed at Dale Street School.

Bob Maguire, a Medfield Veterans’ Plaque Committee member and Superintendent of Public Schools, had a vision to honor and recognize Medfield’s war veterans with plaques displayed at each of the town’s five schools. The committee’s first project of restoring and rededicating the World War II veterans’ plaque outside of Dale Street School on May 27, was an overwhelming success met with plenty of support throughout town. As a result, the committee moved forward with Maguire’s vision and set its sights on the next project: A Korean War veterans’ plaque. “It turned out our fundraising was pretty successful last year and we had some funding left from the original plaque that we did,” Maguire said. “The committee established a goal in the spring …

Epson Whiteboards Enable More Interaction in Medfield Classrooms [Video]

Technology specialists in the Medfield School District demonstrated to the Medfield School Committee how the Epson whiteboards can be used to facilitate interactive learning in the classrooms.

Medfield Public Schools technology specialists Teri O’Brien and Jessica Durdel demonstrated the use and features of Epson whiteboards in classrooms to the Medfield School Committee at Monday’s meeting. O’Brien, representing instructional technology for grades kindergarten through five, has been working in the elementary schools for seven years and provided some insight on how the use of these whiteboards can enhance a student’s learning experience at the Dale Street School. “We have 10 of the Epson projectors at Dale Street and 10 smart boards,” O’Brien said.
