The Medfield School Committee met Monday at Medfield High School to discuss business around the school district.
The Medfield School Committee spent the majority of Monday’s meeting reviewing and discussing the district’s capital budget for FY13 that was proposed by Charles Kellner, director of finance and operations of Medfield schools. Kellner highlighted capital project proposals at the Dale Street School, Wheelock School, Blake Middle School and Medfield High School that would cost $226,245 in 2012-2013. The most crucial among those projects, according to Kellner, is replacing the 70-year-old mahogany gym floor at the Dale Street School. “After 70 years, it’s time to replace it,” Kellner said. Committee Tim Bonfatti raised the question of spending money to replace a gym floor in a building that will likely undergo significant renovations within …

Bob Maguire, Medfield Superintendent of Schools, said the district will begin one of two principal searches at the Ralph Wheelock School this month.
There are currently two elementary schools in the Medfield School District without principals – Dale Street and Ralph Wheelock. The committee has set a target date of Nov. 10 for the unveiling of the planned Korean War Veterans plaque to be displayed at Dale Street School.
Bob Maguire, a Medfield Veterans’ Plaque Committee member and Superintendent of Public Schools, had a vision to honor and recognize Medfield’s war veterans with plaques displayed at each of the town’s five schools. The committee’s first project of restoring and rededicating the World War II veterans’ plaque outside of Dale Street School on May 27, was an overwhelming success met with plenty of support throughout town. As a result, the committee moved forward with Maguire’s vision and set its sights on the next project: A Korean War veterans’ plaque. “It turned out our fundraising was pretty successful last year and we had some funding left from the original plaque that we did,” Maguire said. “The committee established a goal in the spring …

Technology specialists in the Medfield School District demonstrated to the Medfield School Committee how the Epson whiteboards can be used to facilitate interactive learning in the classrooms.
Medfield Public Schools technology specialists Teri O’Brien and Jessica Durdel demonstrated the use and features of Epson whiteboards in classrooms to the Medfield School Committee at Monday’s meeting. O’Brien, representing instructional technology for grades kindergarten through five, has been working in the elementary schools for seven years and provided some insight on how the use of these whiteboards can enhance a student’s learning experience at the Dale Street School. “We have 10 of the Epson projectors at Dale Street and 10 smart boards,” O’Brien said. O’Brien demonstrated one way teachers at Dale Street have been using the Epson projectors. “The teachers can access their teacher edition [text books] online,” O’Brien said. “The kids…
