Have You Talked With Your Child About the Shooting at Sandy Hook School?

Experts advise when talking about the shootings to take your lead from your child.

Today is the first day back to school, since the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. on Friday, Dec. 14, where 20 children and six adults were killed by a gunman.  The Medfield School District will take age-appropriate steps today to assure students that they are safe at school, and those children may have follow-up questions for their parents. Experts advise that parents follow the lead of their children—feel them out, find out what their concerns are—when talking about the incident. Dr. Joshua Weiner during an interview on msn.com said he had not told his school-aged children about the massacre in Connecticut until Sunday. Newtown Elementary School Gunman Identified as Adam Lanza

The 20-year-old's brother had been detained by police earlier in the day. Their mother, a teacher at the school, is one of six adults killed. Twenty children also were killed, police say.

  Update 7:10 p.m. Twenty-year-old Adam Lanza, whose older brother had been detained by police in New Jersey earlier Friday, has been identified as the gunman in Newtown who killed 20 children, six adults and himself, according to the Huffington Post. Citing multiple media outlets including CNN, the Huffington Post said many media organizations had relied on inaccurate information to report the shooter as Adam Lanza’s brother earlier in the day. Police Official: 27 Dead, 'It is Not a Simplistic Scene'

Update: 3:50 p.m. "This is an active ongoing investigation" said State Police Lt. Paul Vance speaking at a press conference that is just concluding.
