Post Office Food Drive on Saturday

Be sure to leave your donations by your mailbox.

  Once again, the United States Postal Service employees in Medfield are working to help those in our community who rely on the Medfield Food Cupboard to feed their families.  On Saturday, May 11, postal drivers will collect any bags of food left next to, or hanging from the flags of, mailboxes on their routes, and then deliver them to the Medfield Food Cupboard.  Past postal drives have resulted in thousands of contributed items which fill the shelves before summer.    The items especially needed this year include:  At this time the Food Cupboard DOES NOT NEED any soup, canned vegetables or pasta.   Perishable, expired, or opened items should not be donated as these cannot be used and will be thrown away.    Financial and SCRIP donations …

Attorney General Urges Donors to Watch Out for Scams

AG Martha Coakley warns residents about potential scammers.

The following was taken from an advisory issued by the Office of the Attorney General issued after the Boston Marathon bombings.  Attorney General Martha Coakley reminded those who want to give to support victims of the Boston Marathon attacks to do their homework first to ensure the charity is reputable. More than 125 website domain names relating to the Boston Marathon explosions were registered within a few hours of the attacks Monday, according to Consumer Affairs Undersecretary Barbra Anthony. Fraudulent websites have popped up in the aftermath of other national tragedies, including the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Newtown. MCPE Annual On-line Auction Ends Tonight

Medfield Coalition for Public Education's annual fundraiser (with 60 items on which to bid) ends tonight at 10 p.m.

Back by popular demand, the Medfield Coalition for Public Education (MCPE) is offering its most popular educational experiences from auctions and raffles past. Kids and parents alike love these one-of-a-kind items and teachers and administrators love to give back. This year's offerings include everything from Principal for the Day  to a Ride to School in a Medfield Police Car. "Mr. Medfield" Contest Cancelled

Mark your calendars for the Mr. Medfield pageant.

UPDATE: 1/29/13 -- Due to due to a lack of contestants, the Council recently decided to cancel the Mr. Medfield competition. On Saturday, Feb., 9 at 7 p.m. in the Medfield High School Auditorium, the MHS Student Council will hold its first-ever Mr. Medfield male pageant. Senior boys will compete for the title of Mr. Medfield through a series of segments including an interview, a special talent, and a dance. The seniors will show off their Warrior spirit, and the MHS faculty judges will determine the winners of Mr. Medfield.   Admission is $5.00 per person. Today is Deadline to Nominate Volunteer of the Year

Do you know a Medfield resident who should be recognized for their extraordinary volunteer efforts in town? Have you nominated them for Volunteer of the Year?

The following was taken from a press release submitted by the organization. Today, Jan. 25, is the last day to nominate an extraordinary Medfield volunteer for special recognition of their volunteer efforts as the Medfield Foundation Volunteer of the Year – adult, youth, or lifetime achievement.  The form to make the nomination can be found at the Medfield Foundation’s website. If the person was already nominated once before, you can just ask for that former nomination to be re-submitted this year – nothing easier. Middle School Collecting Coats for Families in Need

Blake Middle School students SIPS (Sudents in Public Service) Students, under the direction of Social Studies teacher, Michael Gow, are holding their annual gently-used coat drive sponsored by Anton's Cleaners. Over the past eight years, SIPS students have collected nearly 800 coats.  These coats have helped needy families across multiple neighborhoods in Massachusetts. Parents and students are encouraged to help by donating "gently used" coats through Friday, January 11. Donation boxes are located at the main entrance to the school.

Help Needed: Gifts Needed for Eight Children Still on "Angel Tree"

There are still eight names left on the Angel Tree at Needham Bank. Toys are due back to the bank by Dec. 17.

The community of Medfield has been extremely supportive of the Angel Tree Program but your help is still needed. There are still eight Angel tags remaining on the tree at Needham Bank with the deadline to purchase and return the gifts less than one week away.  All gifts need to be purchased, wrapped and placed under the tree at Needham Bank on or before Monday, Dec. 17. Please consider stopping by Needham Bank on Main Street and taking an Angel tag.  Your kindness will be greatly appreciated by the Medfield Youth Outreach workers and the children who will benefit by your generosity.

Angel Run Photos: More Than 1,000 Participate in Angel Run 2012

The 7th annual Angel Run was held on Sunday.

Editor's Note: Lots of participants equals lots of photos. Click through to see how many of your friends and neighbors you can find -- It might take a while this year. This year's Angel Run attracted 1,043 participants. One of those participants was Austin Scola who won the 5k with a time of 19:02 minutes. Scola, 16, has run the race for five years but this is the first time he won. "I wasn't expecting to win," said the Medfield High School sophomore. Both Scola and second place winner John Benner of Needham said they liked the many carolers who lined the 3.2 mile course.  Benner, 15, was just seconds behind Scola; this was his second year at the Angel Run.  The popular family-friendly fun event took off from the Wheelock School on Sunday…
