Neighbors Stop CannaMed Location in Framingham

The medical marijuana practice will not open at 945 Concord St. but spokesperson said the company is committed to a Framingham location.

CannaMed will not open its first medical marijuana practice in Massachusetts at 945 Concord Street in Framingham, just over 10 miles from Medfield. The company does plan to find another location in Framingham, said spokesperson Renee Nunez. Tenants at 945 Concord St. had sent letters and emails to the management company expressing their preference not to have the marijuana practice open at 945 Concord St. Nunez said the company is committed to a location in Framingham and is now "seeking better accommodations." She said the plan to open a practice in January. Ten Miles to a Medical Marijuana Prescription

A medical company calling itself CannaMed of Boston has opened its doors just 10 miles from the Medfield town line. On Dec. 15, the company will start writing prescriptions for medical marijuana in Massachusetts.

Earlier this month, Massachusetts voters overwhelmingly approved a ballot question that makes the Commonwealth the 18th state to legalize medical marijuana. Beginning in 2013, patients with HIV, multiple sclerosis, hepatitis C, or other very serious and painful conditions can now obtain a card from the state permitting them to purchase and possess up-to a 60-day supply of marijuana. The new law also means a new business in Framingham, just 10 miles from the Medfield town line. CannaMed of Boston is a franchise of a California-based medical company.
