Big Blue Held Awards Banquet, Will Play Faculty Tonight for Charity

MHS Boys Basketball will take on the MHS Faculty All-Stars tonight in a game to honor Team Statistician William Johnson and to raise money for SMA research.

The Big Blue Boy's Basketball program celebrated its annual end of season banquet on Sunday, March 10.     Congratulations to our freshman team for going 20-0 and our J.V. team going 16-4.    The varsity team also had a successful season finishing 13-8.     Special awards went to the following individulas: Co-Captains for the 2013-14 season are Matt Cahill and Bobby O'Reilly  And while the Big Blue regular season is done, there is one game left tonight, March 12, at 6:30 p.m. at the high school against the Medfield High School Faculty All-Stars! Big Blue Finishes Season with Win Over Weston

Medfield Boys Basketball team finished off their regular season with a 70-53 win over Weston High School.

After dropping a heartbreaker to Ashland on Feb. 15, the Medfield Big Blue Boys Basketball team finished off their regular season with a decisive 70-53 win over Weston High School.   Drew Shea lead the team with 17 points, Remy Fragola had 16 and Brian Hunter had a career high 16 points filling in for co-captain John Zimmerman who went down with an ankle injury early in the game.   The team finishes the regular season with a 13 wins and 7 losses.   Seedings come out today, Feb. 22.  Congratulations to John Zimmerman and Drew Shea for being selected to the Tri-Valley All-Star …

Two More Wins for the Big Blue Last Week

The Medfield High School Boys Basketball Team won their games agains Westwood and Bellingham.

The Medfield Big Blue Boy's basketball team had two more big wins last week.   On Tuesday, the team had an exciting come-from-behind win vs. Westwood.   Down by 17 points at half-time, the Big Blue came out in the second half a totally different team and held Westwood to just 12 second half points. Drew Shea led the team with 18 points, John Zimmerman had 16.   On Friday, the team overcame a sluggish first half once again and beat Bellingham 65-32.     John Zimmerman led the balanced scoring attack with 12 points, Remy Fragola and Matt Pembroke had 11 points. Medfield “Big Blue” Basketball to Tip Off Season on Friday

The Medfield “Big Blue” Boys Basketball team is getting ready to tip off the 2012-13 season on Friday, Dec. 14 in Norton.

Click here to find out how.   The Medfield “Big Blue” Boys Basketball team is getting ready to tip off the 2012-13 season this Friday, Dec. 14 in Norton. This year’s team is lead by senior co-captains Matt Pembroke and John Zimmerman.  Matt will be the team’s starting point guard this year.  John will be starting at the small forward position.  Starting at the power forward spot will be 6’4” senior Remy Fragola.  John Pendergast will get the start at the shooting guard position.  The center position will be anchored by 6’4” junior Drew Shea who is the team's leading returning …

VIDEO: Medfield Knocked Out of Tourney by Sharp-Shooting Norwood

The Medfield High School boys’ basketball team fell to Norwood, 62-50 Tuesday in the first round of the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional State Tournament.

There was no defense for the type of shooting Norwood displayed against Medfield Tuesday as the Mustangs knocked the Warriors out of the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional State Tournament with a 62-50 first round win. Norwood hit seven 3-pointers in the first half to take a 34-25 lead into the break and finished with 10 shots made behind the arc in the game. Medfield, which never led in the game, cut the deficit to six points, 48-42, with five minutes to play in the fourth quarter before Norwood regained momentum and extended the lead back to double digits to close out the game. Norwood seniors Troy Sousa-Semper and Sean O’Neill lead the Mustangs with 13 points each. Medfield’s Johnny McCarthy was the game’s leading scorer with 16 and Drew …

VIDEO: Medfield Honors Seniors; Wins Sixth Straight

The Medfield High School boys' basketball team won its sixth straight game with a 56-34 victory over Bellingham Friday.

It was a special night for the Medfield High School boys' basketball team. The Warriors, playing their final home game of the 2011-2012 regular season, honored their four seniors prior to Friday's game against Bellingham. Co-captains Sam Tawa and Tommy Conlon, Bobby Hunter and Matt Shea were each recognized before the game by head coach Herb Grace. The team, led by Tawa and Conlon, returned the favor and honored Grace for his 300th career victory – a feat he earned Dec. 27 in a 57-53 victory over Belmont at Oliver Ames High School in Easton. As for the game itself, Tawa led all scorers with 14 to help Medfield win its sixth straight game with a 56-34 decision over Bellingham Friday. Junior Johnny McCarthy netted 13 and Drew Shea added 12. …

VIDEO: Medfield Continues to Roll with Big Win Over D-S

The Medfield High School boys' basketball team swept rival Dover-Sherborn in the season series after Friday's 66-46 victory.

The Medfield High School boys' basketball team carried over momentum from Tuesday's 59-44 victory over Hopkinton into Friday's game with rival Dover-Sherborn – beating the Raiders, 66-46 to improve to 9-5 this season and 8-4 in the Tri-Valley League. Medfield led 38-21 at halftime, holding D-S to only 11 points in the first quarter and 10 points in the second, while the Warriors raced out to a 20-point first quarter. D-S rallied in the second half, hitting its first four shots, all three-pointers. The Raiders had five field goals in the third quarter, all threes, which cut the Medfield lead down to four points but Medfield withstood the barrage of shots from beyond the arc with a strong effort by senior captain and forward Sam Tawa. …

VIDEO: Medfield Earns 'Big' TVL Win Over Ashland Friday

The Medfield High School boys' basketball team defeated Ashland, 60-44 Friday to improve to 5-3 in the TVL.

Friday's game between Medfield and Ashland was important for the Warriors in the Tri-Valley League standings – and Big Blue rose to the occasion with a 60-44 victory over the Clockers. Entering Friday's contest, Ashland (5-4, 4-3) was ahead of Medfield (6-4, 5-3) in the TVL standings but the Warriors responded to the challenge in a big way – cruising past the Clockers behind a strong defensive effort and exceptional play from guards Johnny McCarthy and Bobby Hunter. Coming off a 19-point effort Tuesday in Bellingham, McCarthy remained hot shooting the basketball, netting a game-high 26 points to lead the Warriors. Medfield Sports Report: Warriors Finding Early Success this Winter

Many of the Medfield High School winter athletic programs are off to strong starts this season. Here’s how each team looks coming out of winter break.

The Medfield High School winter sports teams are showing early signs of strength that could lead to long-term success for many of Big Blue’s programs. Three weeks into the 2011-2012 winter seasons at Medfield High School, two programs are unbeaten (boys’ hockey and girls’ basketball), while two others boast winning records (girls’ hockey and boys’ and girls’ track). Here’s a team-by-team look at how the Warriors have fared in the early going this season. Boys’ Basketball (3-3, 2-2) The early season highlights include beating defending Tri-Valley League champion Hopkinton, 72-58 on Dec. 16 and rival Dover-Sherborn, 47-46 on Dec. 20. The Warriors lost to the Sailors, 76-70, in Tuesday's opening round game of the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional State Tournament at Scituate High School.

SCITUATE – The comeback fell six points short Tuesday as the Medfield High School boys' basketball team's season came to an end in the first round of the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional State Tournament after a 76-70 loss at Scituate High. Medfield, trailing by 19 at one point in the third quarter and 16 heading into the fourth, rallied in the final eight minutes to cut the deficit to four, but just could not get the lead on a very tough Scituate team. "We made a great comeback," said Medfield High head coach Herb Grace. "We just couldn't pull it off. Overall, it was a valiant effort by the team. They played very hard. I was proud of the effort."
