MHS Boys Hockey Clinches TVL Championship [PHOTOS]

Medfield won over Dover-Sherborn 5-0

  The Medfield High School Boys Varsity Hockey Team has clinched the Tri-Valley League Championship title. The final score of Wednesday's game against Dover-Sherborn was 5-0, according to MassHSHockey.com.   Tyler Etzkorn (#22-captain) scored two of the goals to clinch the TVL championship, according to one spectator.  Were you at the game? VIDEO: Medfield Edges Westwood in Shootout to Advance in State Tourney

The Medfield High School boys' hockey team defeated Westwood, 2-1 in a shootout to advance to Sunday's MIAA Division 3 South Sectional quarterfinals against Scituate at 12:15 p.m.

BOURNE – Medfield's Toby Carlow and Westwood's Mike Welby both knew Thursday's first round game between their boys' hockey teams in the MIAA Division 3 South Sectional State Tournament would be close. Just not this close. Medfield edged rival Westwood, 2-1 in the fifth round of a shootout to advance to Sunday's quarterfinal round against Scituate at 12:15 p.m. at Gallo Arena in Bourne. Thursday's first round thriller was all about the goaltenders as Medfield's Conor Roddy and Westwood's Will Ribas, a freshman, each stood on their heads – allowing just one goal apiece in 57 minutes of play. Medfield Hockey Teams Set for MIAA State Tournament

Medfield boys’ earn preliminary round bye in MIAA D3 South Sectional; girls’ open Wednesday against Concord-Carlisle at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Iorio Arena in Walpole.

The Medfield High School boys’ and girls’ hockey teams found out where they will be seeded in their respective MIAA State Tournaments and who their first round opponents will be after the league released the tournament brackets Saturday. The Medfield girls’ earned the 14th seed in the MIAA Division 2 State Tournament after finishing the regular season 10-5-5 and will “host” Concord-Carlisle (9-8-3), the tournament’s 19th seed. The puck drops at Iorio Arena in Walpole at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 29. Medfield Boys' Hockey Clinches First TVL Title Since 2006

Medfield shut Ashland out, 3-0 Wednesday to claim its first Tri-Valley League title in six years.

The Medfield High School boys' hockey team is the 2011-2012 Tri-Valley League champions. The Warriors defeated TVL foe Ashland, 3-0 at Veterans Arena in Franklin Wednesday night to clinch the league title. Tim Haggerty, Chris Diana and Brian McCloud scored goals and Conor Roddy made 20 saves to earn the shutout. With a 12-1-1 record in the TVL, Medfield stands alone atop the league for the first time since 2006. "I am proud of this team for many reasons but I would say most is their willingness and commitment to working hard everyday and over coming adversity when they faced it," said Medfield head coach Toby Carlow. VIDEO: Medfield Nets 3-1 Win Against Rival Westwood

The Medfield High School boys' hockey team improves to 7-0-1 in the Tri-Valley League with Wednesday's victory over the Wolverines.

FRANKLIN – The Medfield High School boys' hockey team knocked off Tri-Valley League rival Westwood Wednesday, 3-1, to sweep the season series with the Wolverines. Wednesday's win against the defending TVL champs keeps the Warriors atop the league standings with a 7-0-1 record. Medfield defeated Westwood, 3-1 in Canton on Dec. 17. Medfield got on the board 28 seconds into the game Wednesday after Tyler Etzkorn followed his shot on Westwood goaltender William Kenney and tipped in the rebound for the 1-0 advantage. That lead held up through a scoreless second period that saw Westwood gain momentum from a strong penalty kill and a lackluster Medfield power play. Medfield Sports Report: Warriors Finding Early Success this Winter

Many of the Medfield High School winter athletic programs are off to strong starts this season. Here’s how each team looks coming out of winter break.

The Medfield High School winter sports teams are showing early signs of strength that could lead to long-term success for many of Big Blue’s programs. Three weeks into the 2011-2012 winter seasons at Medfield High School, two programs are unbeaten (boys’ hockey and girls’ basketball), while two others boast winning records (girls’ hockey and boys’ and girls’ track). Here’s a team-by-team look at how the Warriors have fared in the early going this season. Boys’ Basketball (3-3, 2-2) The early season highlights include beating defending Tri-Valley League champion Hopkinton, 72-58 on Dec. 16 and rival Dover-Sherborn, 47-46 on Dec. 20. The Medfield High School boys' hockey team is an experienced bunch and head coach Toby Carlow is hoping that leads to a trip to the TD Garden in March. "We've got one goal in mind and that's to get to the Boston Garden," Carlow said. It's Hockey Night for Medfield High School Boys' and Girls' Squads

Warriors boys' and girls' hockey teams take ice tonight in state tournament action.

And then there were two ... Medfield High School is known for having outstanding sports programs and that held true this winter with gymnastics, indoor track, swimming, boys' and girls' basketball and boys' and girls' hockey all making state tournament appearances.  But only two teams are still in play as of March 3 and both teams take the ice tonight. The MHS boys' hockey team began its 2011 MIAA Division 3 South state tournament run with a 6-2 victory over Silver Lake Regional on Feb. 28 in the South Sectional preliminary round. The Warriors will face-off against a familiar opponent tonight, rival Medway at 8:30 p.m. in first round action for both teams. Medfield Boys' Hockey Cruises By Silver Lake, Advances in State Tournament

Warriors defeat Lakers, 6-2 Monday to advance in MIAA Division 3 South Sectional State Tournament.

So much for the Medfield High School boys' hockey team coming off a 12-day layoff rusty.  The Warriors erupted for six goals in their MIAA Division 3 South Sectional State Tournament game Monday and set the tone early with three first period goals, including two in the opening three minutes enroute to a 6-2 victory over Silver Lake Regional of Kingston at Asiaf Arena in Brockton. "They came out with our game plan and attacked and did all that they needed to do," Medfield head coach Toby Carlow said of his Warriors. "We knew we could win this game doing the easy things and making the simple plays and that's what happens when you take the pressure off yourself by making easy plays, it can make the whole difference in the game." MIAA State Tournament Schedules Announced for Medfield Hockey Teams

Medfield High boys' face Silver Lake at 8 p.m. Monday in preliminary round; Girls' face Ursuline in Division 2 first round on Thursday.

The MIAA announced the boys’ and girls’  hockey pairings for the Division 2 and Division 3 State Tournaments and both Medfield High School teams will take the ice at the beginning of the week. The Medfield boys' (12-5-3) are seeded 10th out of 27 teams in the Division 3 South State Tournament and have not played a game since Feb. 16, a 4-2 loss to Westwood, the No. 4 seed in the tournament. Head coach Toby Carlow's Warriors will face-off against 23rd seeded Silver Lake on Monday at 8 p.m. in Brockton for the preliminary round of the tournament. If Medfield beats Silver Lake it would play the winner of the Medway-Wareham game. The remainder of the tournament schedule and dates of games is TBA.
