Here are some helpful homeowner hints from the Boston Better Business Bureau.
Now that Spring is here, many homeowners are busy cleaning up their yards, and giving their properties some tender loving care after a very long winter. One of the things that may need attention this year is your driveway. This is what the Boston Better Business Bureau has to say about that. Tips for Driveway Improvement An attractive, well-kept driveway can help a home make a good first impression, provide protection against flooding, and even add value to your investment. But replacing a driveway can be a costly endeavor. Better Business Bureau advises home owners to take the time to choose a contractor you can trust. When looking to hire a contractor for your driveway, BBB recommends the following tips: Check references. Ask for local …

Let's measure the blizzard through lawn ornaments!
We at Patch like to have fun – even when we’re covering a story as big as the Blizzard of ’13! So when the biggest storm in years (potentially in the history of Boston weather) is headed our way, we get into battle mode – and even get a little silly. That’s what this idea is about – and we want you to take part too! A fun way we want to track the storm across Massachusetts is through lawn ornaments. They serve a purpose in the spring and summer, but often feel left out in the cold of winter. Not anymore. We are posting photos of lawn ornaments throughout Massachusetts to highlight snowfall across the commonwealth during and after the storm. All you need to do is hit the Upload Photos and Videos button and upload your own. If we’re stuck at…

Medfield has been hit with 12.5 inches of snow already with more to come.
Medfield Chief of Police, Robert E. Meaney Jr., has advised town residents to stay off the roads if possible because the heavy snow is causing problems on the roads. "All roads are snow covered and some roads are not plowed from side to side and are more narrow than normal due to trees hanging over the road," Meaney said Wednesday morning. "Once the storm has ended, it will be several hours before the roads will be cleared." Medfield has already received 12.5 inches of snow as of 11 a.m. Wednesday, according to Medfield Weather with more expected to fall throughout the day. Meaney said the snow has a higher water content than originally thought "which in turn causes the tree branches to crack down and fall on the wires." The heavier snow …

Chief Meaney says town responded well to storm, was fortunate for its timing.
The 13.5 inches Medfield received between Sunday and Monday did not cause any significant problems or incidents in town, according to Medfield Chief of Police Robert Meaney Jr. "All the roads have been plowed but due to lack of traffic, which is great, many were still covered with snow," said Meaney. "Salt, sun and traffic will deal with this." Meaney said there were a couple of minor motor vehicle accidents – cars going into snow banks – "but nothing significant and no injuries." "The log was very quiet, mostly ambulance runs and a few calls for smoke in the house – dryer, cook stove and a faulty alarm," Meaney said. Meaney said there were no power outages reported in the area and the traffic was very light Monday. "Some businesses didn't…

Activities for you and your family.
Even if school wasn't out of session for winter break, kids would be staying home today, rejoicing for the snow day. My guess is that many parents received the day off as well. Last night's storm dumped about over nine inches of snow on the ground, making for nasty travel conditions. And up to three more inches has piled up today. So now that you are stuck indoors all day, what are you going to do? Here are a few ideas. 1.) Sleep in. Go back to bed, cuddle with your blanket and pillows and catch up on some Zs. It's been a hectic holiday weekend for a lot of people, so this is the perfect opportunity to recharge those batteries. And if you aren't tired, you could always turn this into a romantic date with your significant other. 2.) …

It seems that this overreaction by the government and the media has the same effect as political correctness. That is to say it makes us numb to words like "racist" and "dangerous conditions".....so that when we really need to be aware of those problems....we don't hear the warning or care.   more ›
